@AttyStevenBrown @SpeakSamuel 1. We don't need these people here in the first place. 2. We never did. 3. Anyone who says otherwise is full of shit. You only care because you profit from them. To the tune of millions, instead of working a real job. Lots of people see what you, Emily and Rahul do, as treason.

I think a vast majority of the responses to @SpeakSamuel show a lot. They show how much hatred people have for someone doing things the right way. They show a complete lack of understanding of our immigration law (especially AC21 and backlogs). And worst, they show a lack of human empathy for someone who is struggling predominately because of flaws of the Administrative State.
Sam Peak@SpeakSamuel

This H-1B worker has lived in the US for nearly 20 years and built a family here. His mom was dying in India. To visit her, he would need to wait months to book a consular appointment--with the soonest one available likely being scheduled one year out. He made the difficult choice of not visiting his dying mom because leaving without an appointment would mean separation from his children, job, and his other obligations. Much of the commentary around immigration focuses on how such bureaucratic burdens undermine immigrants’ ability to contribute and innovate. But we must remember that this red tape also prevents these people from being fully engaged with their own lives and meaningfully present in the lives of others. This matters too, and these seemingly non-economic problems will eventually translate into economic costs. If America is no longer a place where people feel empowered to be the best versions of themselves as they celebrate, struggle, and grieve, it ceases not just being the land of opportunity, but also the land of dignity and purpose. linkedin.com/posts/gautam-d…

The H-1B system incentivizes an entire cottage industry of outsourcers. As Daniel points out, the administration could nuke the outsourcers and boost the value of the program overnight, with no change in the number of visas.

In my latest Substack post I explain why allocating visas based on a wage ranking is better than an auction. The Trump administration imposed a $100,000 fee on new H-1B visas. Here, I explain the problems with the policy and how to fix the program.

If you’re against H-1B and truly believe, in your HEART OF HEARTS, that H-1Bs are paid LESS solely because they are visa dependent, I have a suggestion for Congress: Require EVERY company hiring ANY employee — even U.S. citizens — to file an LCA WAGE ATTESTATION. Watch how fast the “CHEAP LABOR” narrative collapses.

@rla9817224 @JBlunt1018 I don't give a fuck about capitalists. Why are you deflecting from lump of labor fallacy. More people = more supply of labor AND more demand for labor. Bound, Khanna, and Morales found that native median wages INCREASED due to H1Bs

@worldorderstan @JBlunt1018 H-1B and most other visas are ways to bring down wages for capitalists, at the expense of native-born workers. Do you disagree? A small section actually are “brilliant”, but by and large it’s a way to pay less for labor. Im not saying there is a “fixed pie” of labor, however

@JBlunt1018 Nothing in lump of labor fallacy disproves that wages don’t get lower as more supply gets added, it simply says that there is not a fixed amount of labor (which is true). It’s also just an anecdotal economic theory that doesn’t have a lot of basis.

@TheOmniLiberal Brian Thompson was a mass murderer and he got what he deserved. If we had a functioning democracy maybe there'd be a case for leaving it to the justice system, but we do not. Luigi was beyond justified.

This is just not true. Hasan absolutely supports the killing, or at the very least believes the killing is morally justified. The only reason why people are able to dance around this topic is because no one will ask him these questions point blank to force an honest answer, but this is an intentional strategy where people like Hasan/Trump etc...will only go on podcasts where they know they won't be confronted directly with challenging questions, which allows everyone else to play the plausible deniability game about their takes.
Matt Bruenig@MattBruenig

@KelseyTuoc I think you've pretty clearly misrepresented Piker here. He was asked to theorize why some people reacted to the killing positively. And his theory is that they did so due to the disgust with health insurance sector's "social murder," which is a well-defined term of art.

Absolutely vile framing. Immigrants expand BOTH labor supply and labor demand—every serious empirical study has confirmed this. Only 9% of economists believe immigration reduces wages. Should be embarrassing to publish.

@zagrebbi No, increasing the labor supply absolutely lowers wages. Otherwise why would companies push so hard to get immigrant laborers while explicitly citing high labor costs as the reason? I refuse to believe that every pro-immigration CEO is a moron.

@MeyasAlexandros @EricLevitz I’d rather be in a country where I can criticize the government, drink the tap water, and not get my organs harvested. The higher median wages is just a cherry on top.

@EricLevitz The welfarist Nordic Monarchies have greater wealth inequality, worse infrastructure and are Imperialist lackeys. They are not socialist and their relative wealth is built on the foundations of plunder from the global south . Oh yeah and they are smaller than most Chinese cities

Hasan Piker has said that China is the country that's come closest to realizing his socialist ideals. This is a curious choice. Even if one puts economic equality above political liberty, the Nordic social democracies are way more egalitarian vox.com/politics/48609…

@rabbit8lol @Erek_Smith @TheOmniLiberal A government healthcare admin would have less incentive to deny high cost procedures cuz there is no profit motive, the program is run with appropriated funds and the senior management have fixed salaries which they have no influence on. There is also no shareholder.

Why is someone suffering from a rare cancer needing an experimental liver transplant an example of insurance companies being “greedy”??? Do you think there is ANY medical system on earth that simply covers every single theoretical treatment for every single disease, no matter the cost?????
Sean Hutch@voiceoffcamera

@TheOmniLiberal No one cares how it is “supposed” to work when the reality is that people that have paid their premiums expecting insurance to work when it’s needed for life-saving treatments, and a greedy bureaucracy leads to denials.

Insurance companies are required to pay out claims, they can't keep more than 20% of all premiums, if they don't pay out enough claims then the rest is reimbursed to people who are insured. No one on the far left has literally any idea how insurance markets or healthcare or anything in the US works, it's just endless virtue signalling to rile people up to get some momentary popularity for their unelectable candidates while Republicans are busy destroying the country.
