Kate, 45, has taught 'Of Mice and Men' every year for the last 20 years. Despite her Year 11 class having spent the last 6 weeks revising the book, someone has just asked: 'Wait: Curley's Wife dies?!' #CatTeachers

The older-generation insults, baffling youngsters and destined perhaps to disappear, are part of a larger repertoire of British colloquialisms and slang…

English teachers: I’ve seen a number of requests for stories that could be read & discussed within a *single* class period. So, let’s do a fast 🧵. I’ll share a linked story with a possible discussion Q, imagining the following thumbnail lesson plan for secondary English…

When you have lots of prep for work to do, Procrastination cries, ‘Bake!’ I am notoriously bad at baking, so I must have a shedload of work to avoid 😁.

I know I go on about how awesome linguistics is, but, have you ever actually met a linguist? Seriously You might be thinking, “I’d love to do an MSc in Forensic Linguistics and Speech Science but… I’ve never met a linguist before and you just never know…” 1/7

@ruthienilsson @GCSE_Macbeth We check everything - also our questions and requirements are too specific for AI so that it’s pretty easy but the solid proof is harder. Some places insist on work being handed in through an AI checker.

@LauraLolder This is fascinating because I’m looking for a different focus for AIC coursework. I’ve done Shelia for the last two years and a bit bored now. Going to explore the motifs angle as it also gives them the breadth and depth they need. V interesting 🧐

You probably already know I'm a big fan of teaching motifs as a way for students to think about texts holistically. There are lots of these in Macbeth and A Christmas Carol BUT not much has been said about 'An Inspector Calls' - 💵📸🥂 So a quick thread 🧵 for @Team_English1

An American in an FB group I'm in asked for book recs set in London or Paris for an upcoming visit.I suggested Rivers of London because I like it &it actually gets the geog right. But I realised I don't have much else that isn't historical,& that is all anyone else is suggesting.

For World Book Day, the English Dept want to do a collaborative dress up. Any ideas on something with many characters? Up to 10 at least! 🥲 Planning ahead…
