The Hilton donated the ~2600 dinners that went unserved at WHCD. They freeze dried the steak and lobster for longer shelf life before giving them to 2 shelters for abused women and children. HUGE thank you to the staff that worked through the night under terrible circumstances.

Death Valley National Park is experiencing its first major superbloom in a decade as of March/April 2026, driven by record winter rainfall (1.7 – 2.5+ inches) that transformed the desert landscape with vibrant carpets of yellow, pink, and purple flowers.

The Anglo-Saxons liked to give their daughters names ending in wynn, which was an archaic word for joy. Here were the most common ones: 1. Elfwyn (“elf joy”) 2. Wulfwyn (“wolf joy”) 3. Léofwyn (“beloved joy”) 4. Æðelwyn (“noble joy”) 5. Beornwyn (“bear joy”) 6. Déorwyn (“dear joy”) 7. Óswyn (“god joy”) 8. Berhtwyn (“bright joy”) 9. Sigewyn (“victory joy”) 10. Merewyn (“sea joy”)

This door in Westminster Abbey is older than most modern nation-states. Made in the 1050s from an English oak, it's the only surviving Anglo-Saxon door in Britain.

This week has been taxing emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Here in Virginia, we not only experienced yet another wave of demoralizing and disenfranchising authoritarianism from those in government we can no longer trust. We received a clear message from a simple majority (51%) of our own neighbors that our right to be represented fairly doesn’t matter to them. In addition, a member of our church plant shared with me about how her home church (a large church that I have great respect for) is being spiritually abusive to her friends, among many others, back there. And the abuse they’ve been made to endure is similar to how I myself suffered (mostly silently) in that same denomination for the better part of 10 long and arduous years. The feelings are real: 1) Anger over swelling injustice; 2) Helplessness as God’s mercy must first fall upon us, before we can experience it; 3) Isolation, as is often the case for those called to a prophetic/preaching ministry. And yet in the midst of all this, God has been steadily providing encouragement through dear brothers and sisters, his Word, and his Spirit’s presence. Jesus, the Singer of the Psalms, through his servant David, cried out “Whom have I in heaven but you?” His refrain? “Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD.” - Psalm 27:14 To my friends who know this all too well, may we lean into this balm and find rest, knowing that Jesus is King and that the battle belongs to the LORD.

the story of a marble worker evrard flignot who devastated by the death of his wife built a mausoleum for her. at first look inside, there is a mourner reaching out to an empty wall. but, once a year, on the day of the summer solstice, the sun draws a light that recalls this love for almost a century.

About 54% of U.S. adults (ages 16-74) — roughly 130 million people — read below a 6th-grade level. Why does nobody talk about this?

In Tokyo, there's a cleaning crew that does the impossible every 12 minutes. They're called TESSEI. They clean the Shinkansen bullet trains at Tokyo Station. When a train arrives, it stops for 12 minutes before departing again. Two minutes for passengers to exit. Three more for the next batch to board. That leaves seven. In those seven minutes, one person must: * Clean 100 seats * Wipe every tray table * Vacuum the floor * Rotate every seat to face the new direction of travel * Replace all headrest covers * Check the overhead bins * Bow to incoming passengers Seven. Minutes. They do this several times a day. Harvard Business School published a case study about them. The New York Times called it "the 7-minute miracle." Tourists now stand on the platform just to watch. Before they start, they bow to the train. When they finish, they line up and bow to the passengers. They're paid by the hour. Many are in their 50s and 60s. Japan didn't invent cleaning. They invented the dignity of doing small things perfectly. - @tanpukunokami

On August 8, 1982, a line drive foul ball hit a four year old boy in the head at Fenway Park. Jim Rice, realizing it would take EMTs too long to arrive and cut through the crowd, sprang from the dugout and scooped up the boy... He laid the boy gently on the dugout floor, where the Red Sox medical team began to treat him. When the boy arrived at the hospital thirty minutes later, doctors said, without a doubt, that Jim's prompt actions saved the boy's life. Jim returned to the game in a blood-stained uniform. A true badge of courage. After visiting the boy in the hospital, and realizing the family was of modest means, he stopped by the business office and instructed that the bill be sent to him. This is what a real sports hero looks like. "Love is patient. Love is kind." Thank you Jim Rice for who you are and for all you do.
