MARCH TO GAZA: Join the international call aimed at opening the Rafah crossing to allow the flow of life-saving aid into Gaza.
This is a moment that requires new tactics to break the political siege on Gaza. We need to continue to increase the pressure however we can for as long as Gaza is under attack.
The situation in Gaza is unbearable and governments and international bodies have failed to intervene to deliver justice for the people of Palestine. So we must do it ourselves.
An international congregation will meet on June 15 in Egypt and will make its way towards the border with Rafah. Join the movement and march to Gaza!

October 7th: honoured to be delivering this year’s inaugural lecture @dohainstitute on the subject of war and peace…

As a @dohainstitute scholar, I was privileged to present a study at #ECREA2024 on Gaza. My findings showed that the citizen-journalism initiative @Ceasefire_Track ran a successful #CeasefireNOW campaign in early 2024. More such research on Gaza is needed!

Feedback means a lot to us at FactCheckAfrica, and we are thrilled to consistently receive phenomenal responses from our AI Journalism Fellows about their experiences in each session.
Recently, Walid Al-Saqaf (@wsaqaf), Associate Professor in Journalism and Senior Lecturer in Media Technology @Mkv_Sodertorn, led a session focused on ethical and equitable AI practices in journalism. Below are some of the insightful feedback we received:
"The most valuable takeaway from this session was the presentation about how to detect deepfake. I tried the tool and it worked perfectly. I will integrate the knowledge by using the InVID tools for multimedia forensics." — @CitizenLi, Lecturer, Nigeria
"The most valuable takeaway for me is the importance of taking into consideration the ethical aspects to ensure that our audience maintains the trust they have in the news we publish. I will integrate all the learned knowledge into my station's news items and ensure all ethical considerations are observed when using social media for content posting." — @katherine_ilona, Content/Programme Personnel, Nigeria
"The tasks by my team and others really broadened my understanding. I will integrate the knowledge in ensuring that human supervision is essential after any Al content." — Aruwajoye Oladapo, Broadcaster, Nigeria
We are continually driven by the goal of ensuring seamless integration of #AI and #Journalism across #WestAfrica. Join us!

The long standing ovation for Palestinian journalists covering Gaza gave me goosebumps. Never in the history of journalism have so many journalists been killed in one single location in such a short time.

Well-served! I applaud @UNESCO's #WorldPressFreedom Prize Committee for awarding this year's prize to Palestinian journalists covering the war on Gaza. It is a shame that they are not more recognized for their sacrifice.
