Don’t let Republicans in DC gaslight you. Using reconciliation, Congress was able to go around the filibuster and pass a bill with less than 60 votes in the senate. It was called the Big Beautiful Bill. What did it do? It added hundreds of billions of dollars of new spending.

There seems to be some confusion here, so let me be clear: reading to my kids is one of the best parts of my day, and all kids deserve that special time with their parents. What angers me as a parent, a teacher, and an author is that this administration is doing everything it can to make everyday life harder and more unaffordable for parents, while simultaneously setting American education back and setting our children up for failure, all while tweeting as if they aren’t. If this administration cared about early intervention, it wouldn’t oppose family leave, and it certainly wouldn’t be gutting programs like Head Start and PBS (Sesame Street). If they cared about parents having access to libraries, they wouldn’t be on a crusade against them. If they cared about teachers, they wouldn’t put a wrestling CEO in charge of the DOE who thinks AI is called “A1” while advocating for replacing teachers with robots. Don’t pretend to care about literacy when you’re making it more likely that parents will have to work more or later hours to get by, while schools and early childhood programs suffer or shut down. In December 2025, President Trump and @SecVetAffairs Doug Collins moved to ban access to abortion care at the VA, even in cases of rape, incest, or when the health of the mother is at risk. Earlier this week, the Senate voted on our bill to overturn that policy. 50 Republican Senators opposed it, meaning the abortion ban remains in effect. This threat to women's healthcare continues to be real. After losing elections in the wake of Roe falling, Republicans know that it's not politically popular to be publicly for abortion bans. So they do it just like this: quietly, in the dark of night, through bureaucratic rule-making -- hoping we won't catch it. Our veterans deserve access to abortion care. Period.
