The internet acts like men universally want a fixed 20 yo target forever. Real world pairing patterns do not support that outside of fantasy preferences or niche cases. The acceptable range widens somewhat with age, but the ideal range still clusters near peers. Which makes sense because long term relationships are not built on aesthetics alone. Shared context, compatibility, intellectual parity, life stage alignment, and psychological development all start mattering more for actual pair bonding. Most people mate assortatively. Similar IQ ranges, education levels, values, lifestyles, religiosity, socioeconomic backgrounds, and personality structures. The data on actual long term pair bonding consistently reflects that. I was never anxious about dating in my 30s (married to the man of my dreams now) because I understood the type of men I was interested in were selecting for more than aesthetics alone. Physical attraction matters (it’s the entry ticket almost always), but higher IQ men tend to orient toward depth, compatibility, shared frameworks, and intellectual resonance beyond pure visual novelty. I was also not interested in being valued exclusively as a body anyway. In my experience, men who reduce women entirely to physicality tend to have lower cognitive complexity overall. Meaning I was actively filtering out dumb men.
