Being a parent that’s already navigated the social media trials and tribulations, I don’t agree with the total ban. Some apps like this one, absolutely. But others already have teen accounts with protections. Banning YouTube is silly.. It’s just going to push them into areas of the internet and apps we really don’t want them to be on. Kids these days are smarter than we were when it comes to this stuff, they’ll find a way around it.

I dont like them personally, but when supervised they can be useful educational tools. Its the bullying that scares me, kids are evil nowadays. Will you still allow him to use them both?

@xFrizzone @matthewdmarsden The issue with social media is posting themselves, sending pictures, bullying, etc. So watching videos of things he's interested in, under my supervision/on my accounts is not "taking an interest" in having his own Facebook or snapchat account where he can do those things.

I have 7 kids at home. They get a dumb phone when they get to an age when we need to pick them up from their extra curricular activities. As they get older they get a regular phone, but have restrictions and they are monitored, as is their access to computers. They do not get an email till they are 13. Their school has a no social media policy that parents sign on to. They are not allowed x, insta, snap or facebook till they are 18. No government supervision required. Just good old parenting.

@matthewdmarsden When it comes to social media I'm so happy I have a son & not a daughter. My 15yr old has never asked for it and could care less about it. He has YouTube & tiktok, but watches videos of animals, Anime & gaming. He's s signed into my accts so I can monitor what he watches. Simple.

We are banning social media access for under 16s. These days kids must find their feet in a world where technology intrudes into every area of their life. I just can’t let that go on anymore. So we’re giving children their childhoods back.
