I've only been on this Comeng train for two stations for far, and at each station stop there's been a passenger just standing at the door with a dumb look on their face wondering when it's going to open.

As shabby as it looks, I’m going to miss the contemporary design of Boronia once it’s all redeveloped. Although it was extensively rebuilt into its current form in the late 1990s, it’s a rare example of design originating out of an era of significant underinvestment.

@aussiewongm There's something really bittersweet about the workhorse of the Melbourne fleet being recycled into steel which will be used to continue to support the railways.

@BerryAndBitty @tayser82 If the short running services went to Melton instead of West Footscray, then in peak that would bump it up to what 60 in use during the 2-3 peak hour window, leaving 10 for standby, maintenance etc

@xSmartalec @tayser82 Might be? You want reserve trains, both to repair them, and do maintenance, cleaning etc, and ofc reserves in case a train goes down The more trains you have, the more reserve you need in case of all of this

Well blow me down with a feather, preparatory / planning works to electrify Melton are going to be in Federal and state budgets. HCMT order topup, incoming! All but guarantees minimum service level of 12TPH on the metro tunnel line in early 2030s too.

@TomMalleeOgden My father-in-law is a contractor. He is insanely gifted. We were at Melbourne Airport together years ago and I asked him what it would cost to build another curve today. I will never forget his answer… “We can’t, we don’t know how to do it.”
