Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you for your response. I would appreciate it if you could proceed with submitting the refund request for the unused ticket under booking reference 7FFBIA. However, I must respectfully reiterate that my request for reimbursement of the additional costs incurred (USD 5,000) is based on Article 19 of the Montreal Convention, which establishes the carrier’s liability for damages caused by delay in the carriage of passengers. These damages include reasonable additional expenses that passengers must incur as a direct consequence of the disruption of the scheduled transport. The replacement tickets were purchased only after waiting an additional week in good faith for Qatar Airways to resume the flights. Unfortunately, as the flights were still not operating, we had no reasonable alternative but to secure transportation with another airline. For this reason, I kindly request that the reimbursement claim for the additional costs be reviewed formally in accordance with the Montreal Convention and Qatar Airways’ obligations under international air transport law. Legal basis for compensation Under Article 19 of the Montreal Convention, the air carrier is liable for damages caused by delay in the carriage of passengers, unless the carrier proves that it took all reasonable measures to avoid the damage or that it was impossible to take such measures. These damages include reasonable additional expenses incurred by passengers as a direct consequence of the disruption, such as purchasing replacement tickets. Furthermore, Article 22(1) of the Montreal Convention limits the carrier’s liability for passenger delay to up to 5,346 Special Drawing Rights (SDR) per passenger (approximately USD 7,000–7,200, depending on the current exchange rate). Therefore, the requested reimbursement of USD 5,000 in additional costs falls within the liability limit established by the Convention. Additionally, the Convention on International Civil Aviation establishes the international framework for civil aviation and obliges airlines operating international flights to comply with internationally accepted standards of passenger protection and liability, including those set out in the Montreal Convention. Accordingly, passengers are entitled not only to a refund of the unused ticket, but also to compensation for provable additional expenses caused by the disruption, provided that such expenses are reasonable and directly linked to the carrier’s failure to perform the contracted air transport.

@qatarairways Dear Qatar Airways Customer Service, I am writing regarding my booking Reference Number: 7FFBIA. Qatar Airways has still not resumed the flights related to this booking, and unfortunately we can no longer wait. A one-week extension was the maximum we could allow, although we tried to remain as loyal to Qatar Airways as possible and hoped that the flights would resume within that time. As the flights have still not been reinstated, we were forced to purchase replacement tickets with another airline in order to proceed with our travel plans. Additionally, I am currently unable to cancel the original flight through the Qatar Airways website or mobile application. The page remains stuck on the loading screen and does not complete the process, as shown in the attached screenshot. Therefore, I kindly request: • A full refund for the unused / cancelled ticket under booking reference 7FFBIA, and • Reimbursement of the additional costs incurred in the amount of USD 5,000, which were necessary to purchase replacement tickets with another airline. These additional costs were unavoidable and exceed the amount of the refund for the unused flight. I therefore respectfully request compensation for this difference.
