Very sad news: Peer Bork, a wonderful scientist, has long been one of the leaders of our field (genomics and bioinformatics) and he was far too young to be gone. embl.org/news/embl-anno…

Niccoló Carlino studied the roles of food microbiomes on human gut microbiomes. The similarities go down to the strain level, meaning they are likely from food. 🤓

Fermented Foods are diverse. Not all contain prebiotic fibers, but they all have postbiotic metabolites (and likely probiotic microbes). Presented by @SeanPaulSpencer

Despite the challenges and heavy workload in the lab, thanks to the extraordinary team we've built, this first semester we achieved the lab’s highest level of productivity, 32 up to July 7th. We've now reached our 300th publication (overall)—a timely and relevant study led by one of my students, starting from her undergraduate training. Over the past few years, people have come and gone, joined and left projects, but the lab remains steady and strong. @IIMB_UV Unequal burdens: Irritable bowel syndrome in sexual and... : Clinical and Translational Gastroenterology journals.lww.com/ctg/abstract/9…

Today, I asked chatGPT to re-implement two R functions that I inherited. With 2 million rows and over 200 columns, the old function takes 30 mins, and the new function only takes 5 seconds! R is not slow. If you use the vectorized function in R correctly, it can be blazing fast

Scared to share this after 10 freaking years of waiting but here we go: We found that temperature *perception* can change the next generations, even when “it’s just in the parents' head”. Read how C. elegans neurons control epigenetic inheritance! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Kudos to the authors for reporting negative findings. Paper in @MedCellPress shows no associations between gut microbiota and BMI, overweight, obesity, body composition, or adiposity. Notably, there was also no association between early-life gut microbiota and later obesity.

📣Our newest study in @MedCellPress aims to address whether an obesity-associated gut microbiota is established in childhood and a prerequisite for later obesity development. @COPSAC_com & @microUCPH 700 children, longitudinal gut microbiome, BMI and DXA cell.com/med/fulltext/S…

@vsbuffalo I'm curious, what's the name of the other site? I want to leave this platform but I don't want to lose my academic network.

The exodus of scientists to "the other site" (apparently we have to speak in code due to algorithmic filtering) is now quite perceptible. I've been bearish on X dying as a platform for a while because of network effects. Not so anymore. X has a human capital shortage problem.
