@alexanderrusso @seattlehallpass I would say that laying out a mission and vision and decision-making guidelines could be helpful when times get rough. But overall I think it was a great experience! Some of us plan to continue and are in the process of rebranding.

@exante_me It has to be Brent, right? He's their only employee...

@xiebob When they were voting to appoint new members a couple times I guess? But that was on the agenda I don't even think Brent's performance is on the agenda?

About to livetweet the Oct 9 SPS board meeting here, as Beth has a "life" and is doing other stuff. Expecting an update after last month's very spicy 21 school closure preview plan was given a bad review by the board.

@xiebob @Azmazing1 I noticed that too but wondered if the student board member attendance is because they only have half as many meetings?

@exante_me @Azmazing1 I'm assuming sick b/c of the mask? Unusually, the entire board is present, including all 3 student board members.

@Azmazing1 @xiebob I didn't really notice the rest of the board because I was trying to make sure I got all of everything right tweeting, but Liza did sound either upset or quite ill. Masked though. Idk! I am very curious. Something weird clearly going on.

They'll be back at 5:05. This is really unusual.

@MargueriteRoza It can be deceptive to look at things this way. Licton Springs specializes in kids who haven't been able to make it at other schools and has 40% kids with IEPs. It's not that they're doing something wrong, it's who they're working with.

Seattle school closure proposals are getting lots of attention. We suggest examining each school's costs and outcomes as part of the process. Here's an interactive display with the data for SPS: edunomicslab.org/usingdata-in-d…

@exante_me @viviansong @viviansong The mandate to balance the budget by a specific year with the district making the call as to how is scary to me. Seems to me this would make mass school closures more likely?

@exante_me @viviansong From this, binding conditions does sound awful to me. District can borrow against future funds (that's a loan, putting it further in debt!) and still has to balance budget. DISTRICT determines how to balance the budget. The help seems to be just in allowing more debt?

@viviansong @exante_me So for you it's mainly about the source of loan? Are the terms better in binding conditions as well?

@xiebob @exante_me The alternative they are taking is a loan from the capital fund. I prefer the binding conditions loan over the interfund loan because the interfund loan is not a formal process in state statute. It’s a random one time budget proviso.
