Weekly I make an average of 24 trips to take my kids to activities, school and work, all by bike (cargo or we all bike), but with the removal of bike lanes on Bloor I'll be driving, adding to congestion and parking, sorry @CycleToronto

@TheKnotUnites @jeromestarkey Had this twice jumping to the US, all cam'd up just to crawl up to a customs interrogation -- nothing to declare but this c9 and a bivvy bag.

@herbivore0 @CanadaRobin That is def single speed/fixie style riding. I recommend a fixie with a fly wheel and hand brakes. Suspension, maybe just a bit bigger tires? You could also get a seat post with a damper for suspension.

My #bicycle shop friend says I bike wrong 😆. I’m always on high gear, I never change gears, just muscle-it standing through hills..etc. I can’t be the only one who rides this way. I love it, even if it means I’m slow, I don’t care about speed, it feels good. #Cycling #bicycles

@JShamess My vote is labour. Certainly things are more complex, but we also have more knowledge and systems available. I think we could be faster with persistent effort to increase labour supply -- if we could build faster, we could decrease non lab costs and pay for more ppl and pay more.

Why has innovation, speed & costs gone backwards in construction? One of the largest landlords in Toronto has been digging into this issue and cannot find the exact issue: In 1940, the largest office building in the world, The Pentagon. 6,500,000 SF was designed, built, and fully occupied with 30,000 office workers in 18 months. The Empire State Building was built in 12 months in 1931. Few reasons I think of that are positive: 1. More safety regulations 2. Labour costs, more union power protections for employees. What else?

@travisaurasrex @JShamess For sure, for example, I was actively pushed away from the trades by guidance counsellors, and I wasn't an academic super star

**** HERE SHE IS EVERYONE! **** This is “Sweary Poppins” herself! I popped in to see Andie this morning and read her the thread, and she was fine to be identified. As you can see, she has a wonderful collection of scarves, gorgeous two-tone hair, and takes nonsense … 1/4

WELL LADIES AND GENTS! Today I saw an act of utter 💯% heroism in tackling the dreadful parking on our streets 🌟🌟 As you can imagine, it didn’t come from this delivery driver- who decided this was “parking” 😐 I tried to make my way past this abomination with two … 1/8

Hmm, shouldn't it just not allow the door to be opened if a cyclist or smtg is passing nearby -- the warning is good, but my first thought is that it's another thing that puts the onus on those outside of a car... Features that make cars safer for those outside of them,is overdue
cyclesixmile@cyclesixmile

Volvo is releasing a new small electric SUV/hatch. With 275 miles of range and a price of $35k, hopefully this is successful and brings even cheaper competition from non-luxury brands. It also warns the occupants of oncoming bicyclists when opening doors. What do you think?

I'll add that for Southern Africans that White people easily get visa while Black people do not, is commonly understood and known for a long long time (forever), so this is an open secret. Really, white South Africa deciding which Black Africans can visit Canada, WTF?!

Captain Obvious approves and the history of visa issuance at very low rates across Africa by Canada should be investigated for what it is, racism: theglobeandmail.com/politics/artic…

A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, & most of the energy that does, moves the car, not people. Sound efficient? HT @circulareconomy

@manuel1416 @TPSOperations Also, I suspect this was related to two communities who are in conflict in their home countries and one who are hosting a festival in the park today (I can hear the music)... So, this is likely a political conflict and not just random violence.

@manuel1416 @TPSOperations Ya, pretty sure drinking has already been happening in the park -- well, I know so as I go through that park daily. More people and activity generally makes a place safer.
