let's break this down casually: Airbus had to downgrade A320 software back to L103+ because the newer L104 version is vulnerable to intense solar radiation flipping bits in the flight computers... think potential uncontrolled movements, as seen in that JetBlue event. The older version avoids that risk without needing hardware swaps for 85% of planes, though it loses some anti-stall bells and whistles.

@JaimeObregon ok.

Who knows.

@itsalexvacca The advantage of AWS was cheap x86 servers + nascent virtualization technology for such virtualization adverse ISA (xen). Sun hardware was orders of magnitude more expensive. Your reasoning seems broken to me.

@Abel_TorresM Societal dynamics are among the most complex challenges we face. The primary function of the granular prefrontal cortex (PFC)—a feature that sets primates apart from other species—is thought to be specialized for navigating them.

In preview, Copilot Pro and Copilot Free users can now bring your own key (BYOK) for popular providers such as Anthropic, Gemini, Ollama, and Open Router. This allows you to use new models that aren’t supported natively by Copilot the very first day that they’re released.

@RyanSmithAT Coherent protocol changes required to use an unsorted network (mesh) are no joke.

We've finished some additional Ryzen 9 9950X core latency testing. We're waiting to hear back from AMD at this point. But we've not been able to find a case where cross-CCD latencies match the 7950X. Even Linux in high-performance mode shows similarly high latencies

Ryan Smith@RyanSmithAT
I'm working on a bit of a mystery this morning, following the launch of the Ryzen 9 9950X. The core-to-core latencies are nearly 2.5x (100ns) higher than they were on 7950X. These are very high latencies for on-chip comms. And it's not obvious why it's any higher than 7950X.

@dav_robbe @KordingLab At least "one" read the abstract! 🤣

When we wrote that paper on neuroscientists understanding microprocessors we inspired a computer architecture person to actually develop a model of the brain: shorturl.at/fKPZx thoughts? I will be happy to report any feedback back to him.

@KordingLab LOL. That didn't get too much attention. Thanks anyway @KordingLab

@InformatUnican ¿Que tiene que decir la CRUE acerca de las Universidades Saudis? A. Saudi lidera una coalición que es responsable del 60% de las muertes civiles en la guerra de Yemen? (con ~400.000 muertes en total)

This is the problem with fixed tests. Eventually someone somewhere finds a way to game the system, causing one benchmark to shoot up and distort the final score. Sure it's architectural and genuine performance, but if no-one uses it yet, does it make a sound?

I did something wrong, so here is the updated table. There's about 3% IPC increase.

@BerenMillidge @drclbuckley @anilkseth How does predictive coding theory account for the fact that most feedback target synapses are metabotropic (i.e., much weaker than ionotropic)?
English

Interested in predictive coding? @drclbuckley, @anilkseth and I have put together a comprehensive new review covering both the core theory in an accessible way as well as many recent advances in the field.

@xpuente @DrYohanJohn My guess is that core differences between cortical areas are driven more by evolution than by data. Some differences emerge early in the developmental process, even before birth.
