Korra should’ve assimilated Vaatu like how Wan and her, later assimilated Raava I always felt like there was a missing piece in Team Avatar that could tie the whole universe together perfectly. Honestly, the idea of Raava being Absolute Good and Vaatu being Absolute Evil kinda ruined the lore for me, especially for a story heavily inspired by Eastern cultures and the concept of Yin and Yang. If they had retconned the legend so that Wan (or later Korra) had to assimilate both spirits to achieve true balance, it would have created a brilliant need for a failsafe character because it forces the Avatar to choose to be good because they genuinely believe it's right for the world, rather than just having a deity of pure good sitting inside them. And if they ever cross the line? This secret Guardian, trained since infancy to be their closest counsel, is weaponized as the ultimate countermeasure to face and defeat them.
