Some background info before we get started. I teach music at a K-5 elem. school. The following was shared with a specialist who is at two schools (specialist is a word here that means someone who teaches a class outside of the home classroom. Music, Art, PE, Library, Title, etc)

If you are finding my profile because of the very sweet tweets that @Aoiferocksitout published regarding our son and his therapy needs, here is the situation: Kiddo is 5 and has SPD. We are scheduled for the first in a series of evals for ASD later this month. [1]

So TL:DR; we're looking for resources in the Lawrence, KS or KC area for assistance affording therapy for our kiddo. And also if you voted against Medicaid expansion, you're hurting my family and you suck, thanks for coming to my TED Talk. [What number are we on? 9?]

It's also very hard for him to break away from the comfort of his routine. So for the last almost 6 months, Tuesday at 10 AM was therapy time. He loves therapy, so that means even more anticipation/expectation. When he found out we couldn't go this morning, he just... broke. [7]

We have had to drop from weekly therapy appointments to 1x/month. When I told my kiddo this morning that we couldn't go to therapy, he started crying and promising he'd "be kind" and "do what you ask without arguing." He literally thinks he's being punished for something. [6]

As such, we've been denied for any federal or state assistance. Last time I applied, we made about $50/month too much to qualify. That fifty "extra" bucks doesn't go very far when therapy is $300 a month. So we are looking for other resources to help with the cost. [5]

On paper, my husband makes almost twice as much as he actually brings home, because we pay nearly $400 per pay period for insurance, on top of the usual taxes and such. I also own my own business but I'm lucky to make $600-800/month with that at the moment. [4]

Our first bill arrived a few weeks ago and it was $700 for the first two months. Second bill arrived shortly after and we are now up to $1300. We are applying for financial assistance but they go by gross income as it relates to federal poverty levels. [3]

Kiddo has been in therapy since July--PT/OT play therapy to help with motor control and strength deficits, as well as to help us learn how to help him navigate challenges with sensory input, potty learning, and other behavioral hurdles. [2]

Hi, Michele. At this point we are trying to avoid doing a crowdfunding situation, as this is an ongoing need for our kiddo and we can't reasonably ask people to give us money all the time for it. Currently looking for resources for assistance etc. as we don't qualify for Medicaid
