I need to say one last thing about Lauren Hough. I'm going to mute this. Both sides are wrong. #Authors shouldn't comment on #bookreviews #Bookreviewers shouldn't review a #book they didn't read. It's the vitriol of both sides that makes everything harder.

@luxewithoutdebt @chrisglover He sends a threatening letter to admin and teachers, they are forced to curtail students free expression during graduation under threat of their jobs. This is currently happening at my school. It's been happening. Many students are pro-palestinian, but cannot express this.

Ford muzzles students at graduations. High school graduates who are priced out of college or university because of OSAP cuts will not be able to mention OSAP at their graduations. Ford's Minister of Education threatens Boards where students make any political statements at their graduations. #ONpoli #OntEd cbc.ca/news/canada/to…

@antireligionism @pizzefrit @TrulyAFed The pages seen in the display are 1m by 30 cm, only about 5 times bigger than 5x11. Each entry includes "last name, first name, birth date, birth location, murdered in death location". Approximately 8 words per entry.

500 words on an 8x11. The book in the museum page is a little over 33 times the size of an 8x11. That’s 16,665 words on one page side. That’s 33,330 per page (two sides). For one name (first, middle, last) that’s 18M words. That alone fits on 540 pages. With generous padding it’s over 600 pages. That’s a simple college textbook. The museum book spans an entire wall.

@nationalpost This article references the Quebec Civil Code surrounding the changing of a child's name and/or gender marker on official documents, but ignores that this teacher is not changing any official documents. They are just referring to the child by the name they want to be referred to.

Parents of boys: nearly every reading list out there telling you which novels your child will need to have read by which grade is produced by women. The "best" lists are filled with so-called classics whose primary audience at the time of writing was upperclass middle aged women. Female English teachers, homeschool moms, and teenage girls especially love these novels. If you are trying to raise men, however, and insist that they be novel readers as well, at least give them books that are written by real men, for real men, about real men. The future will thank you.

Louis L’Amour, the “laureate of the lariat,” was born on this day in 1908. A veteran of World War II, L’Amour worked as an elephant handler, miner, merchant seaman, animal skinner, lumberjack, and professional boxer along his journey. His breakout novel, HONDO, was published in 1953. It was his novelization of the screenplay and film of the same name starring John Wayne based on L’Amour’s 1952 short story THE GIFT OF COCHISE. HONDO was published the day the movie hit screens with a blurb from John Wayne stating that HONDO was the finest Western he had ever read. Louis L’Amour published over 100 works during his lifetime including LAST OF THE BREED, one of the four novels that directly influenced my thriller, SAVAGE SON. The first and last chapters of LAST OF THE BREED are nothing short of brilliant. Louis L’Amour was presented with the National Gold Medal for lifetime literary achievement by Congress in 1983 and the Medal of Freedom by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. His life and work continue to influence today. Get to know the man behind the books through his autobiography, EDUCATION OF A WANDERING MAN. “I think of myself in the oral tradition – as a troubadour, a village taleteller, the man in the shadows of the campfire. That’s the way I’d like to be remembered – as a storyteller. A good storyteller.” – Louis L’Amour

IF YOU HAVE A CAR, DON'T SKIP THIS‼️ You’ve been parking your automatic car the wrong way for years, and it is slowly destroying your transmission. Most people just pull into a spot, slam the gear into P (Park), and then pull the handbrake. If you’re doing this, you are literally asking your gearbox to hold the entire weight of your car. Here is the Right way to do it in 5 steps: 1. Come to a full stop with your foot on the brake. 2. Shift the gear to N (Neutral). 3. Pull your Handbrake (or engage the electronic parking brake). 4. Take your foot off the brake pedal. Let the car settle on the handbrake. 5. Now, push your foot back on the brake and shift into P (Park). Why should you do this? Inside your transmission, there’s a tiny metal pin called a Parking Pawl. When you put the car in Park (P) without using the handbrake first, that tiny pin is the only thing stopping your car from rolling away. If you are parked on a hill or a slope, the stress on that pin is massive. Have you ever noticed that loud, painful CLUNK sound when you try to shift out of Park on a hill or slope? That’s the sound of your transmission screaming. You are literally forcing the gears to grind against that pinned-up weight. Over time, you’re rounding off the edges of that metal pin or, worse, snapping it. The handbrake was designed to hold the weight of the car. The transmission was designed to shift gears. Stop making the gearbox do the heavy lifting. Except of course you want to replace it regularly (that's not cheap). You're welcome 🤝🏾 INALEGWU.

@ch_lagace @FNoMTL No, what it really means is you can't work and not speak French. English is not a requirement to start a small business in Ontario, lots of small business owners hire recent immigrants who know only basic English and this standard should be acceptable in Quebec too.

@MattWalshBlog With this perspective, if the kids are gods, then Bo Peep becomes a secularist figure showing the toys that their lives aren't meant to be run by the kids forever. She rejects the dogma laid out by the other toys. The narrative shifts into something more deist than mainline.

Watching Toy Story 3 with my kids. In the landfill, the toys are apparently the only conscious beings amid all the random plastic objects. And yet in the fourth installment we’re introduced to a self-aware spork that Bonnie, a young child, has named Forky. This suggests that consciousness in the Toy Story universe is imbued into objects only once they are named and loved by a human being. This would explain why the toys in Sid’s room in the first film apparently have a more rudimentary and savage form of consciousness, reflecting the conscious state of the child who owns them. I need to develop this theory more. I’ll let you know what I come up with.

@PeaceLillie330 @FoundationDads @CTKayMarie Typically these studies have a selection bias where only homeschool parents with successful children respond, as well as the bias based on parents with more resources being the ones homeschooling.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but if you homeschool, you don't need to spend 6+ hours per day doing it. Public school should not be your model. What a typical homeschool day might look like: - Kids wake up 8:30 - 9:00 - Kids start school around 10:00 - Kids are usually done by lunchtime. Sometimes they go a little bit after. Rest of the day is free. - At night, the family reads together for 45-60 minutes. Sometimes we go to the zoo. Sometimes we take walks. Sometimes they have an online class. Sometimes they do nothing extra. One day a week we go to our co-op and spend time with other families. They usually do a science experiment. As kids reach middle school, they take on more responsibility for themselves, and school lasts a bit longer per day. But at that point, your personal involvement doesn't increase drastically. You already helped them grow and spread their wings. They can fly a bit on their own.

@FoundationDads @CTKayMarie You appear to have not read the comment made. Do you intend to allow your child to attend higher education? If so, unstructured homeschool as you describe has led to weaker outcomes for students entering higher Ed. It's partially about classroom interactions with teachers.

@CTKayMarie The "socialization" mth and canard is one of the most tiresome, and proves a lack of knowledge and imagination. Homeschooled kids get out of the house all the time and interact with all sorts of people, usually not limited to just other kids in their own age group.

One of my favorite podcasters pointed at that Boomers laughed at Gen X and Millennials for not being able to do things like change oils or build houses. Millennials and Gen X laughed at them for not being able to use a computer or code. But everyone laughs at Gen Z cause they cant do either, especially since they cant read and computer interface is much more user friendly (drag and drops, etc.)
