The loss of physical film has been a disaster for more than one reason.
1. Despite modern beliefs (just digital fanboism), film has better image quality, color depth and separation, and a more pleasing image than most digital capture.
2. The loss of film and the fanboi worship of digital destroyed the discipline that was necessary in the age of film to attend to lighting, contrast ratios, color rendering.
It shows. Modern "cinematographers" are not cinematographers. They're kids with iphones on a gimbal.
I trained as a filmmaker and photographer in college. Film. Actual film. Cut with a razor and spliced.
The base commandment: "Get it in the negative." That meant you made your lighting and focus and framing and sound perfect in the real world so that you got a quality negative. You did the work up front.
This was to warn you against "fixing it in post," because fixes in post are never able to achieve what getting a quality negative can do. You can't "fix" parts of an image that were never captured because you didn't bother to light well.

I’m sorry, but this is just ridiculous. Race swapping Snape and most of the students, including Hermione, completely kills the immersion in HBO’s Harry Potter show. Snape was written as a thin, greasy haired man with a pale, sneering face. Turning the story into one about racism destroys its internal themes, and ruins the story. This show was over for me the moment it chose tokenism over staying faithful to the books.

Dude who wanted to take the Ring for himself to save his kingdom but decided the mission to destroy it was more important because it would save the world, and died for that cause.
King who initially refused to aid another kingdom because they didn't help when they needed it, but ultimately decided fighting evil and saving their civilization was more important than his petty grudge, and died for that cause.
Guy who lived a life of cruelty and greed who got corrupted by a quasi-demonic force that turned him into a monster and made him suffer in loneliness for hundreds of years until given the chance to redeem himself and genuinely tried but ultimately failed by giving into temptation and betraying the only person who could bring him salvation.

I checked the polling in this issue and between two thirds and three quarters of Americans agree with Rowling’s position that males should not be allowed to compete as women in the Olympics.
The problem is that the reporters who work for media outlets like Variety and AV Club and Kotaku are not normal.
There are no normal people in their office. They are so aberrant and so cloistered that they think their bizarre and unpopular values are mainstream, and they think Rowling’s views, which are shared by a supermajority of their readership, are the ones that are deviant and stigmatized.
These journalists should be fired and replaced by AI, which is better at discovering and conveying facts, better at accurately perceiving reality, has better news judgment and is better at writing.
