The UK is the only country in Europe where earning more can leave you worse off. Get a pay rise from £99K to £104K and after losing tax-free childcare, your personal allowance taper and child benefit, your take-home actually drops. We have built a tax system that quietly punishes you for working harder and we call it 'fair.'

@annaroseridgway £1040 a month won't cover rent, council tax and bills. Nevermind food, and that's for one person in a tiny flat.. How'd you come up with this?

This is probably going to ruffle some feathers but it has to be pointed out. Living a “comfortable life” or a “nice life” is not a human right. The state should not be required to ensure that you don’t have to sell your house or that you can afford comforts. £12,500 alone is not enough to live a comfortable life - but I think it is more than enough to survive. If you want to have a comfortable life in retirement, sell your house, earn some extra income, or save money before you retire.

@Byromew @PensionsMonkey True, everything will collapse unless the balance is improved, the people are sick of barely getting by whilst the top 5% hoard wealth. Something needs to change. (Spoiler, it's not the immigrants either)

@93vintagejones @cultofwilson It helps by ending the high cost of detention and treating people with dignity while they navigate the system. It reduces immediate "system stress," but I still believe we won't see real improvement until we address the corporate greed hollowing out the country.

[Zack Polanski]: hey we got this policy that should improve things somewhat. [20 year old lad from provincial town with 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🍺🍋🇬🇧 in his name and the number of stadiums he’s been to in his bio for some reason]: this man will ruin this country. he is evil. this man scares me.

@BemeBoy @93vintagejones @cultofwilson Removing detention isn't "open borders" - it's a human rights reform. Also, that 3 million figure sounds like an extreme "what if" projection rather than a target. It’s easier to blame migrants than to hold the billionaire class accountable for the state of our infrastructure.

@yesmorememe @93vintagejones @cultofwilson Doesn’t help is understatement of the century: greens want literal open borders. It’s in their manifesto. Their own documents report an estimated 3 MILLION ANNUALLY.

@93vintagejones @cultofwilson Whilst immigration definitely doesn't help the already stressed system, it's not the root cause of this countries issues. Countless right wing parties have spent years convincing the public that it is the case, so they don't realise the 1% (greed) is a BIG part of the problem

Just to make it clear: There will never be a time when it’s morally justifiable to pay the CEO of Tesco £10million. Ever. If you can’t grasp that you’re actually just an incredibly shitty person.

@KyleJollymore89 @maxcownie_ Lmao imagine blaming immigrants for CEOs choosing stock buybacks over living wages. Productivity is up but pay stayed flat since the 70s. It’s not a supply issue, it’s corporate greed and lobbying. If they wanted to pay more, they would. Don't let them scapegoat people.

The point of a business is to maximize profits. You can personally invest in that business to reep the rewards. The greed is enabled by the government allowing mass immigrants to keep the wages down If there were not unlimited people to take those jobs the company would have to raise wages. The only people to blame is the governments immigration policy.

@KyleJollymore89 @maxcownie_ you seem to skip over the fact that it's full time, we should be able to afford basic necessities doing a 9-5, which points to a fundamental flaw in the system ((greed)), hence why in a lot of people's eyes green sounds like a positive choice

@KyleJollymore89 @maxcownie_ Wrong again unfortunately, it's a skilled profession but the company LOVES underpaying their staff, whilst the higher ups all drive flashy cars and pull the big bucks, classic corporate hell

@RandomGadgie @cezthesocialist @danbarker @PolitlcsUK Because as someone who did an apprenticeship a few years ago at 16 starting on £4.38 an hour I learned how to budget my money, essentially how to be financially savvy with it. It was annoying for sure and frustrating at times but I look back on it now and I'm glad what i learned

🚨 NEW: Green leader Zack Polanski will call for policies to end the "affordability crisis" tomorrow - The introduction of a 10:1 pay ratio, whereby the highest-paid employee earns no more than ten times the lowest-paid - Free school meals for all primary and secondary pupils - Universal energy bill support for households and stronger rent controls - A customs union with the EU to cut business costs
