US to lift Eritrea sanctions as Red Sea tensions reshape alliances, document says May 5 (Reuters) - The United States is set to remove sanctions against Eritrea, according to an internal U.S. government document seen by Reuters, a decision analysts linked to the African state's strategic location on the Red Sea shipping route. The U.S. move is aimed at improving ties with Eritrea, which has a long Red ‌Sea coastline opposite Saudi Arabia, while also sending a message to neighbouring Ethiopia not to go to war with its longtime Horn of Africa foe, analysts said. reuters.com/.../us-lift-er…

The Eritrean Diaspora; by Alula Frezghi Eritrea's signature attributes of seamless national cohesion and harmony - within a multiethnic and multireligious social setting - and robust bondage with the Diaspora have indeed been pivotal in its three-decades struggle to assert is inviolable rights of decolonization as well as in the tasks of of nation-building in the aftermath of its hard-won independence. shabait.com/2026/05/05/the…

Press Statement Mischaracterizations Surrounding Prospects for Eritrea-United States #Rapprochement The #Embassy of the State of #Eritrea in Washington, D.C. takes note of the recent article published by The Wall Street Journal on prospects for resetting relations between Eritrea and the United States. While the article acknowledges Eritrea's strategic importance in the #Horn of #Africa and the #RedSea corridor, it advances selective narratives with the evident intention of undermining the timely opportunity for constructive engagement. Indeed, and in the same vein, certain, self-styled, pundits have subsequently reverted to alarmist interpretations across media and social platforms, recycling discredited claims and attempting to cast unwarranted doubt on any positive trajectory in Eritrea-U.S. relations. Such commentaries are neither objective nor constructive; essentially, they represent hired lobbyist advocacies disguised as "independent" analysis. A fundamental reality must be recognized. Decades of pressure, sanctions, and isolation have not produced positive outcomes, neither for #US policy objectives nor for regional stability. There is now increasing acknowledgment, even within U.S. policy circles, that a shift towards engagement, rather than misplaced and unwarranted coercion, is both necessary and overdue. Attempts by some commentators to portray this shift as dangerous reveal more about entrenched biases than about actual conditions on the ground. The persistence of such narratives, often repeated loudly on social media without evidence, reflects a deliberate effort to obstruct progress rather than inform public understanding. Eritrea's position has been consistent and principled. Since independence, it has pursued a policy anchored in #sovereignty, non-interference, and an independent development policy that eschews structural and perpetual dependency. Eritrea does not subscribe to dependency-based models. Instead, it promotes mutually beneficial partnerships rooted in trade, investment, and respect for national ownership of development priorities; an approach aligned with evolving global trends. Attempts by certain analysts to caricature this policy orientation only expose a lack of seriousness and analytical rigor. Assertions that improved relations would embolden instability lack credibility. Eritrea has consistently upheld territorial integrity, international law, and peaceful coexistence. Its regional policy has been guided by, and is anchored on, legitimate security considerations and a clear commitment to stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea basin. The repeated efforts by some voices to suggest otherwise, often in inflammatory tones, amount to little more than noise intended to distract from substantive policy discussions. Equally flawed is the narrative that lifting unilateral U.S. sanctions would have negative consequences. These measures were unwarranted, selectively applied, and counterproductive. They neither advanced peace nor served strategic interests. Their continued defense by a narrow circle of commentators, despite clear evidence of their legality and utility, raises questions about the motivation behind such positions. As pronounced on several occasions, Eritrea has always been keen to cultivate a respectful, forward-looking, and constructive engagement based on mutual respect, non-coercion, and sovereign equality. The path forward requires moving beyond ineffective policies and dismissing unproductive narratives, particularly those amplified by the whimsical intent of certain individuals bent on derailing progress. A balanced, fact-based, approach will better serve both nations and contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region.

History is moving toward dialogue, not failed pressure. Those clinging to outdated hostility cannot stop a new chapter between #Eritrea and the #UnitedStates. Respect for sovereignty, strategic cooperation, and honest diplomacy serve peace far better than fear-driven narratives and manufactured alarm. The future of the Horn of #Africa and the Red Sea demands engagement rooted in realism, not old agendas. Eritrea, given its strategic location along the Red Sea and its influence on stability in the Horn of Africa, has significant importance for both regional security and global trade routes. With its proximity to key shipping lanes and its role in counterterrorism and migration dynamics, it can serve as an indispensable partner. That is precisely why the Trump administration has signaled openness to resetting ties and exploring renewed diplomatic engagement.

The stale blabbering of Potemkin Party's senior officials, and affiliated back-stabbers, is again on the rise these days. The Party's leader, as well as minions such as Gen. Tsadkan, are resuscitating the same provocative and discredited arguments of "sovereign access to sea"; the same unlawful recipe of regional destabilization, with heightened shrill and frenzy. These toxic policies have and continue to be roundly rejected by the international community. The purpose of the recent intensified campaign seems, accordingly, directed at their domestic constituencies to deflect attention from real and profound problems that the country is grappling with. x.com/hawelti/status…

#Eritrea - Statement by Foreign Minister Osman Saleh at the Geneva Conference on Unilateral Sanctions "The international order is increasingly characterized by the normalization, expansion, and quiet institutionalization of unilateral coercive measures. Their scope has widened, their application intensified, and their reach extended far beyond national jurisdictions. This evolution has unfolded largely outside the framework of multilateral legitimacy and in tension with the foundational principles of international law, sovereign equality, non-interference, and the importance of the Charter of the United Nations". shabait.com/2026/04/09/sta…

Potemkin Party's antics and theatrics seem to increasingly transcend the bounds of rationality. This is the only explanation for the bizarre conference that the Institute of Foreign Affairs convened this week under the theme: "Inclusive Maritime Governance". Speakers included some obscure and hired "pundits" as well as the senior officials of a Ghost Navy. The Horn of Africa countries have roundly and firmly rejected, without equivocation or ambivalence, the Potemkin Party's quest for "sovereign access to the Sea" as toxic and avoidable threat to regional peace and security. The response from the international community has, likewise, been the same. And yet, Potemkin Party officials and minions seem to double down and indulge on this perilous path. The multi-layered ramifications of this delusional policy are otherwise very evident as the attached link elucidates: "ካብ ጉይይ ምውዓል፥ ክሳድ ምሓዝ"! === The “Sovereign Sea Gate” Delusion: Ethiopia’s Expansionist Narrative Disguised as Strategy shabait.com/2026/04/08/the…

Profile Q & A: “My Dream is to be the Ambassador of Eritrean Traditional Cuisine"; by Kidane Shimendi *"...My research is ongoing, but I have studied 45 traditional dishes from across the country so far. All Eritrean dishes are complementary. They are organic, beautiful, flavorful, and healthy. For example, porridge is a staple across all our ethnic groups; while the specific ingredients or designs might vary slightly by region, the essence remains a unifying cultural thread". *"...Honestly, Eritrean traditional dishes hold superior medicinal and economic value. In many parts of the world, pesticides and other chemicals contaminate soil and produce, putting public health at risk. In Eritrea, the use of such chemicals is strictly regulated or prohibited. This ensures the health of our soil and the purity of our food". *"...I will continue to document every traditional dish in Eritrea and publish them in a comprehensive collection. I plan to expand my television program on Eri-TV, organize national food festivals, and eventually open a culinary training school and a flagship national restaurant". shabait.com/2026/03/26/my-…

The Potemkin Party's disinformation pendulum appears to swing between two poles these days. On the one-hand, the PP continues to ramp up its monotonous, albeit toxic, tone on the imperative for "sovereign access to the sea" and associated saber rattling that it has flaunted for more than two years now. At the same time, there is a distinct twist/tone to its mendacious campaign in these times to portray itself as a "victim" of destabilization and thereby re-package its overarching irredentist agenda as a "legitimate act of self-defence". The latest version in its playbook of ever-shifting fallacious arguments and pretexts consists of ludicrous misinterpretation of the long-settled EEBC Award; to ascertain with a straight face that the Award's implementation remains "unilateral and illegal action before physical demarcation is carried out through an agreed process". These gimmicks are willfully floated to camouflage and divert attention from its reckless irredentist agenda which has been and remains the central kernel and driver of the tension in the region. That the EEBC had closed shop in 2007 having delivered its demarcation decision - duly deposited at the UN Cartographic Office with copies to both parties - is indeed a matter of historical record. The bedrock of the Joint Declaration of Peace and Friendship between Eritrea and Ethiopia, that was signed in Asmara in 2018, was in fact Ethiopia's full and unequivocal, if belated, commitment to the implementation of the EEBC Award, (Art.4). In the event, the Potemkin Party's U-turn is not surprising in many respects; as backstabbing, duplicity and deception are, indeed, part and parcel of its daily political staple. x.com/hawelti/status…
