I don’t know what to say anymore. As doctors, we can’t stop a genocide and we can’t end a famine. We provided a diagnosis - genocide. We provided a prescription to end the genocide - for Canada to end its complicity and direct involvement in Israel’s crimes now.

They take matters into their own hands, and know that no state or government will come save us, as it’s always been the people who have cared for one another, and fuelled the struggle for liberation of all peoples who are oppressed in this world. Let their love and courage fuel our capacity to continue organizing efforts on the ground to challenge and put an end to our states, governments, and private sector complicity in Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

Stay silent when children sleep, not when they die. And these beautiful humans are doing so much more than not being silent in the face of bearing witness to genocide. They are sailing to Gaza currently - as a people driven flotilla movement and as an act of international solidarity to challenge and break Israel’s illegal siege and blockade on Gaza. I love these humans so much.

Statement on April 28, 2026 by the family of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya: Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya's detention has been extended without charge and without time limit, despite his deteriorating health. The family of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya confirms that Israeli authorities continue to detain him under procedures devoid of legal basis, on the grounds that he fulfilled his medical and humanitarian duty and refused to abandon his patients. In this context, the Beersheba District Court this morning approved the extension of his detention under the so-called "illegal combatants" law, without any formal charges being brought against him and without setting a time limit for his detention. The court also rejected the defense's request for immediate release, despite the fact that he was detained while performing his duties as a doctor. According to Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya’s lawyer, he is currently being held in the Negev prison in difficult conditions, where he is deprived of his basic medications and is not receiving the necessary medical care, despite the continued deterioration of his health. The family stresses that his continued detention without charge and the denial of medical care constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law and endanger his life. The family reiterates its demand for the immediate and unconditional release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, so that he may receive urgent medical care and his lawyer may meet with him without restriction.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya is being held unlawfully. His arbitrary detention must immediately be brought to an end. Each additional day compounds the responsibility of those detaining him. May all Palestinian hostages be released soon. May the perpetrators face justice soon.

Dr. Swee Ang shared her message to the participants of the flotilla movement and to the Palestinian people in Gaza with me, and I want to share it with you: God bless you all. Being on a small boat on a rough sea expecting to be attacked anytime by the Genocidal entity’s Navy with the certainty of being imprisoned and deported or worse still being wounded and killed was something I anticipated when I signed on as medical doctor on the Awda in 2018 (Freedom Flotilla Coalition boat). I was violently seasick and also sustained two rib fractures confirmed by CT scan upon release from Israeli Prison. But if that was the price of solidarity with the people of Gaza I was glad I did it. I responded because I knew Gaza has been under a cruel military blockade since 2007. Gaza needs to know that we wanted to break the blockade for them. Awda started its journey in response to Gaza’s Great March of Return in 2018. We have to let our brothers and sisters in Gaza know that we will never forsake them. I am now too elderly and unwell to make the journey but my heart and spirit are with all of you on the journey to Gaza come what may. My prayers are with all of you and I am so grateful and honoured that I was able to make the journey once upon a time for Gaza. Godspeed and all my love to you all and Gaza. Today, the Phoenix Library was honored to collaborate with the General Union of Palestinian Writers and Authors to host a reading seminar for the novel 'A Spark of Fire' by the Palestinian author Mahmoud Al-Basyouni. We are striving to breathe life back into reading. Gaza.

Thank you PalMed Academy for putting together a wonderful conference and gathering on Palestinian healthcare. It was deeply inspiring and hopeful to see medical professionals and healthcare workers gather around a commitment to the right to health for Palestine, and strengthening healthcare for Palestinians as an ongoing act of resistance against colonial erasure. What I found particularly powerful was hearing about the research projects presented by Palestinian medical students who attended the conference virtually from Gaza. They are the present and future of the Palestinian healthcare system. As Palestine is our moral compass, Palestinian healthcare workers are our moral compass as the epitome of professionalism and duty of care as healthcare workers.

So thankful to see my medical colleagues in person after meeting virtually on @docstopgenocide webinars. It is the most professional thing to do as a healthcare worker to be opposed to genocide. ❤️‍🔥✊

Grateful to spend time with doctors like @DrMadsGilbert who deeply understand the importance of solidarity work in the medical profession. It is a moral duty and obligation to stand with the oppressed and fight for liberation from occupation and apartheid. Free Palestine. 🇵🇸❤️‍🔥✊
