Today, I spoke with the President Herzog of Israel. I reiterated that the appalling treatment of civilians aboard the Gaza-bound flotilla was unacceptable, and that respect for human dignity must be upheld everywhere, at all times. I underlined the imperative of de-escalation in the Middle East, and the importance of a genuine resumption of dialogue among all parties. Progress toward peace and stability in the region must remain the clear, shared objective.

We are still alive… after one of the harshest and most painful nights we have ever lived through.😭💔🙏 Military vehicles advanced under a relentless hail of gunfire, while the bombardment did not stop for a single moment, and fear surrounded us from every side. How long will we continue to live under this daily terror in the Gaza Strip? How long will death remain so close to us every moment of every day? This year, Jewish American Heritage Month comes at a time when antisemitism continues to rise and we must grapple with deadly attacks against Jewish Americans, from DC to CO to MI. Hate must be intolerable and confronted. It is more important than ever that we renew our vow to forcefully confront antisemitism wherever it is found. I am proud to have joined in unanimously passing a resolution to recognize the significance of Jewish American Heritage Month and call on elected officials and civil society leaders to counter antisemitism.

Canada unequivocally condemns the abominable treatment of civilians aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, including that which is documented in footage shared by Itamar Ben-Gvir. Canada is demanding immediate assurances of the safety and security of Canadians involved.
