@CarmitValensi 7 October was contrived by Israel. We know Israel funded Hamas and used them as an excuse to occupy more land. Same game plan with Syria. Israel creates its own problems for its expansionist goals.

The concerns: military rearmament moving faster than expected, jihadist ideological roots, Turkish backing, and a specific fear of Syrian forces entering Lebanon through a Sunni corridor. But is this an accurate picture — and does Syria genuinely pose a threat to Israel right now? A country rebuilding after 14 years of devastating civil war needs a functioning army. That's state-building. Whether it becomes a threat depends on choices that perhaps haven't been made yet. What's clear is that Israel isn't assessing Syria in a vacuum. אני חושב שהדיון על שאלת הג'נוסייד בעזה הפך להיות מטופש, מצד אחד מפני המניעים הלא ענייניים של הצדדים השונים ומצד שני מפני שבכל מקרה ישראל המיטה אסון הומניטרי עצום על עזה, שבתוכו פשעי מלחמה ופשעים נגד האנושות. כרגע מדובר במונח שאין בו דבר מלבד shock value, וגם זה עתיד לדהות ככל שיתברר שג'נוסייד על פי המתעקשים אינו יותר ממלחמה נוראית במיוחד. אבל מכיוון שהדיון מתקיים, ומכיוון שפרופ' @bartov_omer החליט לתרום לו ספר שלם, ומכיוון שעיתון @Haaretz בחרו לראיין אותו, קשה להבין למה בכל הראיון אין התמודדות עם הנקודה הזאת. הקביעה של ברטוב שהיה ג'נוסייד, לא מפותחת, לא מפורטת ולא מאותגרת. והרי שאלת הג'נוסייד, שלמרות מה שאולי שמעתם נתונה במחלוקת, היא לב הטענות שלו כלפי ישראל, היא הבסיס לקביעה שלו ש"הציונות חייבת להיעלם", לא פחות. למה לא לשאול אותו איך הוא הגיע למסקנה הזאת? למה לא לתת לו לפרוש את הטיעונים והראיות? למה לא לשאול אותו מה זה בדיוק ג'נוסייד, והאם גם חמאס ביצע ג'נוסייד בישראל (הרי לכאורה העיקר הכוונה) ואולי גם איראן, שכבר עשרות שנים מדברת על השמדת ישראל, ביצעה ג'נוסייד כאשר ירצה עלינו מאות טילים. המראיין, @Etanetan23, מתייחס לעניין כאילו הוא פתור, ולא מקשה. לא טוב. haaretz.co.il/gallery/litera…
