Not cool. You can dislike a Prime Minister, disagree with a government, protest, debate and vote differently. That’s democracy. But reducing the office of India’s Prime Minister, the man, the office, and what he represents abroad, to a joke on foreign soil -doesn’t feel like the right thing or dissent - to me. It diminishes him, the institution, and ultimately, us.

मोदी बुढ़ापे में गली गली दौड़ता, सारे हथकंडे अपनाता। राहुल गांधी गाली खाकर भी बेमन से ही सही धूप बरसात में निकल जनता से मिलता। अखिलेश यादव दिन में चार जिले घूमता और बीस कार्यकर्ताओं के घर पहुंचता। विजय इतना लोकप्रिय होने के बावजूद और बहुत जमीनी मेहनत के बावजूद तमिलनाडु में बहुमत नहीं पा पाया। सारे देश में लोकप्रिय होने के बावजूद और भरपूर जमीनी कार्यकर्ता होने के बावजूद भाजपा पश्चिम बंगाल में मुश्किल से सत्ता पा पा पाई और तमिलनाडु केरल में उसकी हैसियत ही नहीं। कम्युनिस्ट अपने कैडर के प्रति बहुत कट्टर रहते हैं फिर भी इस वक्त किसी राज्य में सत्ता में नहीं। सारे छल छद्म के बावजूद केजरीवाल की आम आदमी पार्टी दिल्ली और पंजाब के अलावा कहीं पनप न पाई। और केजरीवाल एंड कम्पनी ने भी दिल्ली में सड़कों पर संघर्ष किया था तभी उठे। राजीव गांधी को छोड़ दें तो भारत का कोई प्रधानमंत्री आसमान से नहीं टपका था। मनमोहन भी वित्त मंत्री रहे ही थे। और राजीव गांधी उस नेहरू गांधी खानदान से थे जिनकी तब के लोगों में वाकई इज्जत थी। भारत की जमीनी राजनीति बहुत कठिन है और सत्ता पाना बेहद कठिन। इंस्टाग्रामी क्रांति से यहां राजनीति नहीं चलती। जिस देश में मोदी जैसा सत्ता बनाए रखने के लिए भरपूर मेहनत करने वाला नेता हो। अखिलेश और ममता बैनर्जी से दम भर लड़ने का माद्दा रखने वाले जमीनी विपक्षी नेता हों। वहां जो लोग केवल एक इंस्टाग्रामी पार्टी के इंस्टाग्रामी फॉलोअर्स के आधार पर नेपाल जैसी क्रांति का सपना देख रहे, वो वही हैं जो चूना के पहले अक्षर, अंतिम के दूसरे अक्षर और चुहिया के तीसरे अक्षर से मिला कर शब्द बनता है। शुक्र मनाओ शेषन मर चुका और गोपालस्वामी रिटायर हो चुका।
