President HH has condemned attempts to block the filing of nomination papers in Mazabuka, calling the scenes “unacceptable, undemocratic, and a direct violation of the rule of law.” The statement follows chaotic scenes in which independent candidate Gary Nkombo was confronted by violent individuals while trying to file his nomination papers, forcing him to physically fight his way through. Hichilema says law enforcement agencies must “move swiftly” to arrest those responsible.

@yoni_take @LankyObserver He was not declared bankrupt by ECZ. He was declared bankrupt by courts of law. That was back in 2019 and fully discharged in 2022. I was part of the group that started the action against him.

This is what happens when the system is broken — bootlickers almost everywhere, with almost everyone focused on praising ba Plot 1 instead of demanding accountability. Then people still expect meaningful development in such an environment.

Development has revoked the Lusaka City Council’s resolution to rename Simon Mwewa Lane Market. facebook.com/10006456097729… The full council meeting held earlier today, May 8, 2026, had resolved to rename the market to "HH Lumumba Market" with immediate effect. The decision drew mixed reactions. Chitambala Mwewa, son of the late Simon Mwewa and a Lusaka mayoral aspirant, expressed displeasure with the change. He claimed the renaming was meant to frustrate him politically. #Zambia.

@BwalyahII @Space2013M I'm trying to understand something here, following the passing of bill 7 wasn't the Minister part of the same council meet which at first had decided to rename the market?

Local Govt Minister Gift Sialubalo has revoked the Lusaka City Council’s resolution to rename Simon Mwewa Lane Market to HH Lumumba Market. There was no sense in renaming the market after HH in my view.

The danger I've observed is when both sides ignore even basic common sense to defend their camps. UPND colleagues now justify the same wrongs we once condemned together under PF. They’ve also made PF the standard: it’s OK for UPND to do something as long as PF did it too. That has been the saddest part for me. People voted PF out because of some of those wrongs, hoping UPND would correct them, not inherit them. PF diehards are something else too: they not only dismiss every good UPND effort, especially on macroeconomics, they also trivialize some of the bad things done under PF, regardless of how harmful they were to citizens or how they led to PF’s loss of popularity. What I read from both situations is extremely worrying: people are loyal to individuals and political parties, not to the country or the flag. The difference between right and wrong these days lies in who is doing it. These characteristics can’t build a nation; they only divide it. Nation building requires space for all citizens to air their concerns and views, which must be judged on their own merits and not on the political or other affiliations of those who express them.

UPND adopted CDF to deliver development,Five years later, we have small, cheap building blocks littered across the country and it can’t get better than this. This is the kind of development that was needed in 1930,not for a modern economy.

@LankyObserver There was a time when young people stood up for you mother 🇿🇲. Now, when your law-enforcing institutions need their support to uphold integrity, they are nowhere to be found. Hope we’re not watching the future slip away 💀🤞

I'm beyond shocked to learn that this gentleman has been appointed to the ECZ commission. The arrogance with which our government is treating us is just breathtaking at this point.

The Zambian government has temporarily suspended the 10% export tax on copper concentrates for Lumwana mine (and several other big mines). Simple breakdown: What it actually is: Mines can now export raw copper ore (called “concentrates”) without paying the normal export duty for a short time. Not just Lumwana: It applies to Lumwana (Barrick), Mopani, First Quantum, Nkana, Lubambe and others. Lumwana got a quota of 20,000 tonnes. How long? Temporary — currently running until 31 May 2026 (it can be extended). Why? Local smelters are down for maintenance. Without this, mines would have to slow down or stop production and people could lose jobs. The government says it’s just to keep things running until smelters are fixed. Important notes: This is NOT a permanent tax-free deal. It’s NOT only for Lumwana. It only applies to raw concentrates, not finished copper.
