"A group of members of the European Parliament called for the urgent implementation of reforms to expose and limit espionage activities carried out by pro-Russian colleagues in an open letter made public on April 9. "The group of MEPs, led by Lithuanian liberal Petras Austrevicius, wrote that their request was motivated by news that the Hungarian government was 'deliberately sharing confidential information obtained during EU Council meetings with the Putin regime.' kyivindependent.com/european-lawma…

Dude (MP), it’s a bit rich to lecture a Minister on "acting like it" when your own House Leader is busy treating a global war like a pirate movie. While the world watches a major crisis in the Middle East and a mounting death toll in Iran, Andrew Scheer is using a $1,200,000+ taxpayer-funded budget to produce Jack Sparrow memes. It’s hard to see the "leadership and substance" in using public funds for movie GIFs at a volatile global breaking point. If we're talking about acting like serious leaders, we should probably start with the officials who treat international security like a punchline for their base. Between your own $769,158 in annual expenses (ranking you among the highest spenders in the House) and your House Leader's massive office budget, Canadians are paying nearly $2.5 million a year for these two offices alone. For that kind of money, we deserve a serious alternative, not "dude" comments and movie clips. It’s time to move past the performance and get back to the actual work of governing. Taxpayer Impact Comparison (2025-26): Hon. Andrew Scheer (House Leader): $1,461,400+ Total (Salary + Office Budget) Frank Caputo (Shadow Minister): $972,258+ Total (Salary + Billed Expenses) Combined Annual Cost: $2,433,658+ (Source: House of Commons Proactive Disclosures and Members' Expenditure Reports)

I’m an ordinary housewife who has accomplished very little in this life and what I have accomplished I have done with great mediocrity, so please indulge me once more as I boast in the magnificence of my artichokes, the cultivation of which has become one of the very few things I seem to do remarkably well.

My old Kindle still works perfectly. Probably the highest ROI purchase I've ever made. Amazon just killed every Kindle made before 2012. No store access. No downloads. Factory reset and it's a brick. You bought the device. You bought the books. Turns out you were renting both.

@acoyne Wow. I guess we should go back to the horse and buggy days so we don’t have to make and maintain expensive paved roads? And we won’t invest in infrastructure ever again cos stuff might happen. Got it.

I urge the supporters of Ukraine to return to humanity and reason. I beg you to stop listening only to voices from above. Those who push for endless militarization will never face the consequences themselves — neither they nor their families will ever have to fight. Yet they are ready to militarize our societies for political gain, while Ukraine continues to bleed. Only peace, only reason, only diplomacy, only ending this war ASAP can save Ukraine and all of those who are afraid of Russia. Please, be humane. Be analytical. Be vigilant. Do not allow yourselves to be manipulated. The price is far too high.

The entire energy debate just got EMBARRASSED…by a ZOO. In Belgium, Pairi Daiza, voted Europe’s best zoo, has turned its car park into one of the largest solar power plants in the world. They didn’t build on farmland. They didn’t cut down forests. They didn’t argue about “ruining the countryside.” They simply used space that already exists. 7,000 parking spaces. 80% covered. They are now up to 93,786 solar panels. Theyare generating just shy of 40MW of peak power. Producing 39,800 MWh of electricity every year, enough to power over 11,000 homes. More electricity than the zoo actually needs. The rest charges electric vehicles on site, and the surplus is sold back to the grid for a profit. This is now one of the largest solar car parks on the planet, built over tarmac that was already there, above cars that were already parked. No trade-offs. No environmental sacrifice. No excuses. And here’s the problem I have with this… If you covered existing parking lots in the US with solar canopies, you could generate 1.7 trillion kWh of electricity, enough to power around half the country. From space that’s already built on. So next time someone says “where are we going to put all this renewable energy?” Show them this. The real question isn’t where… It’s why aren’t we doing this?

The European strategy for dealing with Trump is now basically the same as dealing with a drunken gobshite at the pub. Don't bother arguing. Just pick up your pint, move to another table and get on with your evening, comfortable in the knowledge he'll either piss himself and pass out or get barred.

You’re so misleading. We’re in a Black Swan price spike. Happens every 30 to 50 years. That’s not what business cases are built on. The world’s next Rogue Leader Black Swan event shall not be underwritten by Canadian money. And for every dollar spent on oil there is way better value in renewables. And it helps defeat climate change to boot. This isn’t rocket science. There might be a near term national security argument for a pipeline. Money to maintain existing infrastructure for O&G makes sense. Otherwise not so much. Private and public capital is on renewables. Since early 2014, its business case is more compelling: ✔️cheaper, and getting more so ✔️distributed ✔️less up front capital ✔️unlimited supply ✔️renewable ✔️no emissions ✔️secure nationally for every nation ✔️ no risk of oil spills at land or sea ✔️no rogue nation Black Swan risks ✔️your source can be your rooftop Etc..
Heather Exner-Pirot@ExnerPirot

There are good reasons to reduce emissions, but there is nothing left to the argument that it makes energy exports more competitive. We are in a seller’s market.
