A lot of you said you wanna talk about money, so let’s talk about money! Next Monday December 23 at 12pm Eastern, I’m hosting a free, casual Zoom meeting where we can talk about finding clients, knowing what to charge, making the leap to full-time freelancing, creating offers, warm vs. cold outreach, and a lot more. My Zoom account allows 100 people in it. There are already 19 people registered, so there’s room for 80 more. It’ll mostly be Q&A and discussion. Join us! lu.ma/yo7p9jto

@areimann @DuaneStorey I do wish to quickly add that Open source doesn’t imply free, it means you can look at the source and confirm it’s not riddled with malicious code etc

@DuaneStorey Matt's version of "open source" apparently isn't free and open like the rest of the world The cost of using WordPress, in his view, is 8%.

This is the second time Matt has unblocked me long enough to snipe a reply, and then block again. I can’t respond to these as it won’t let me. But he basically accused me of living in a bubble for asking an honest question. I’ve had enough though, so he’s earned a block too now. Nulling and taking over plugins with two million users isn’t my idea of helping humanity though.

@rtsclement @JavierCasares I don’t get it… 170 sites and 4.5b turnover, and you did all that with free software? How are you upset with a small plugin? Your whole business will still operate as usual at the end of the day. Surely you can’t state your mass of money as a power play for a GPL project

So here’s a poke in the eye with a wet stick for Matt. I represent an enterprise business with 170 WP sites and a $4.5B turnover. He is making a mockery of WP and I’m sick of it. I’m starting up the WP Enterprise Alliance. I am so sick of this high school bullshit I can’t even form the words. If anyone is interested in the concept

@JavierCasares @DuaneStorey Welcome to GPL. You don’t need to contribute to Wordpress and anyone can take your code and give it away without you :/

@DuaneStorey So, basically there won't be a business around plugins or themes, because they will publish them, and not around hosting because wporg will block you.

We’re about to launch a new block-based builder for WordPress built on Gutenberg APIs and UI components. It makes building with core blocks faster and easier, featuring responsive editing and more. Comment or DM, and I'll send you a free beta invite next week :)

@justintadlock Seriously? You're siding with the guy who has irrevocably split the WordPress community, absolutely destroyed the trust of millions of current and potential users, and is behaving like a megalomaniac? Seriously?

What are the best alternatives to Advanced Custom Fields @wp_acf for people who want to switch away? Is there an easy way to migrate? I suspect there are going to be millions of sites moving away from it in the coming weeks.

“I always thought that was part of WordPress,” Perkowitz told CNBC in an interview, referring to WP Engine. “They’re misleading, and they don’t contribute to the community.” -- Every single day another person is coming to the realization that WP Engine's `Essential WordPress,` `Core WordPress,` and `Enterprise WordPress` plans—yes, those were the actual product names—were in no way officially WordPress products. @photomatt is protecting the open web with open and transparent communication. He's taking on the tough conversations, joining debates, and most importantly listening. And it's making a difference. cnbc.com/2024/10/05/wor…

@MikkiHEL Calm down now, we can't really compare them, as the Original is mastery at work, and the AI is a fella in a bedroom using a point and click adventure game that spits out images. They would need to put in real work to 1/1 the trailer, which AI is the antithesis of

This is these guys in a nutshell. It's a shot-for-shot remake of the original trailer... except it's not even a good copy. It's not just that there is not a single original idea in there, they aren't even aware that they have taken out all the substance. (A li'l thread.)

@schutzsmith @nicksdot @WordPress @photomatt True. But they don’t have to give access to everyone, I imagine killing the requests from WPE save quite a bit of money, so instead of contributing, they have just save energy costs

@nicksdot @WordPress @photomatt Contribute to the bank account of Automattic as Matt is demanding? No, that’s not something I agree with. You don’t get to demand a contribution to a non-profit to be redirected to your for-profit company, whether in money or services.

@erikaishii seriously awesome. I've always wondered if you get to keep the 3D version of yourself when you've been recreated to such amazing details. T-Pain just released his own music video after being scanned.

@ozskier @photomatt @wpengine lol WP Engine is infringing on trademarks, you're using a service that is breaking laws. It's not your fault, how would you know what your host is doing behind the scenes.

I just cancelled my Adobe licence after many years as a customer. The new terms give Adobe "worldwide royalty-free licence to reproduce, display, distribute" or do whatever they want with any content I produce using their software. This is beyond insane. No creator in their right mind can accept this . You pay a huge monthly subscription and they want to own your content and your entire business as well. Going to have to learn some new tools.
