Winning is Hard! Case in point the Tampa Bay Lightning. 4th straight year eliminated in the opening round. Great Head Coach: Jon Cooper Great Goalie: Andrei Vasilevskiy Great Players: Kucherov/Point 2-10 at Home in the last 4 Playoffs.

@yyc_jk @MarkPavelich @cmcdavid97 Bigger question is will McDavid stay or go? He’s made his $$. I honestly think to cement his legacy he needs a cup. Which team in 2 years does he go too?

Here’s the problem. The second you start calling your own team “Average” with high expectations, you’ve already lost the room. That’s not leadership—that’s distance. You never heard Wayne Gretzky do that.
Or Mario Lemieux.
Or Michael Jordan.
Or Tom Brady. Those guys didn’t separate themselves from the team—they dragged the team up with them. And there’s a reason they all have rings. Multiple. People forget something real quick. When Gretzky left Edmonton, the Oilers won the Cup second season after. Let that sink in. Right now, Connor McDavid is the best player in the league. No debate. But if the mindset doesn’t shift, he risks becoming something nobody wants to be— The most talented player of his era with a highlight reel full of magic… and nothing to show for it when it matters most. Someone had to say it. 🏒 #LetGoOilers

The roster blender this team has been through since the first cup run has destroyed all chemistry and sense of identity this team had.
Taylor Burns@tburns34

Jeff Jackson (and Stan Bowman) absolutely decimated the Oilers chances to have a prolonged window at multiple Cups two summers ago. The decision to prioritize re-signing aging role players (Perry, Brown, Janmark, and Henrique) over Holloway and Broberg was a colossal miscalculation. Then (and probably due to a bull-headed owner) they decided not to match and let them walk for nothing. Broberg long-term would have allowed for: a) a lesser role for Ekholm as he began to enter the twilight of his career b) the ability to offload Nurse or force him into 3LD which would slot him where he should be and potentially also make him want to waive his NMC c) not needing to trade for Walman a year ago And THEN, in classic Oilers fashion they make reactionary moves to previous mistakes. They learn the wrong lesson from their failure and overcorrect. SO, last summer, they say, "oh shit, we need to lock up some of these young players." Inexplicably signing Walman to 7x7 and Frederic to 7 years as well. Don't address the goaltending at all in the summer, and then trade for a worse goalie on a worse contract that will now hamstring us further. It's a tale as old as time: Petry for a 3rd. Cogliano for a 3rd. Not knowing what we had in Glencross and Brodziak and letting them walk. Eberle for Strome for Spooner. Hall for Larsson. Trading a 1st for Reinhart. CONSTANT recency and local bias. Buying out Pouliot for no reason. Not doing anything to replace Sekera in 17-18. It's just insane that you have two of the top 4 playoff point producers of all time and you couldn't surround them with enough support and goaltending to win even a single cup.

@yyc_jk @MarkPavelich @cmcdavid97 Most skilled ever discounts the Gretzkys, Mario, Bobby, Federov, Datsyuk, Bure, Crosby ……I could go on. He’s one of the best, but to say he’s most skilled ever is a stretch.

@JayManCroft On paper- but why they were so bad in the regular season is still concerning.

The more I look at this roster: Hyman-Mcdavid-Savoie Podkolzin-Drai-Howard Nuge-Dickinson-Kap Dach-Samanski-Freddy Ekholm-Bouchard Walman-Murphy Stastney-Emberson The more I think the Oilers are not in as bad of spot as everyone’s making it out to be.

@yyc_jk @MarkPavelich @cmcdavid97 He absolutely is not the most skilled player ever. Let’s be brutally honest. It’s not been a great year for him. Botched play in OT at the Olympics ( which the majority of the media gave him a pass on ) now this. All time skills but nothing to show for it.

Ok one more thought. Vasily Podkolzin needs to wear a letter next season.

The panel spoke of 97/29/2 ice time. It's almost like playing them 25+ mins all season & over the course of 450+ games over 3 years is a bad idea.

Tough season is giving too much credit. Complete waste of a year. Should have taken the year off entirely instead of sleepwalking through it the way they did.

The @EdmontonOilers season comes to an end. PK Killed them! ANA PP 9/18 in the series. EDM compromised at Center: McDavid, Draisaitl and Dickinson all played through significant LBI's, Henrique-out. Ducks were better, especially on home ice. Tough season overall in Oil Country.
