The constant pumping of music into every public space, every idle second of sport, every supermarket and café, speaks to an underlying sickness, a kind of cultural mental illness. As a society we are allergic to silence, terrified of spending even one second with our own thoughts

📈 What the ratings say 📈 "Constitution Hill has run to a peak Racing Post Rating of 103, which he achieved at Southwell on his Flat debut Taking into account the penalties some horses carry in the John Porter, the average winning RPR in the last ten years is 114.4. For the third-placed finisher, it is 109.5. So Constitution Hill needs to improve around 7lb to place, on average, and 12lb to win"

Exclusive: Lord Mandelson has not been asked to hand over WhatsApp messages or texts from his personal phone amid mounting concern about the limited nature of the government’s disclosures The peer handed over his work mobile when he was sacked as ambassador to the US because of his friendship with the late paedophile Jeffrey Epstein But he has not been asked by the Cabinet Office for any of the messages on his personal device It has been left to a group of a dozen officials to attempt to “reconstruct” the contents of Mandelson’s phone by asking ministers and officials for their correspondence with the peer The Times has been told that the Cabinet Office was so concerned about the limited nature of the disclosures that it has asked people for messages from their personal devices It is also now asking people for group WhatsApp messages that involved Mandelson, having initially refrained from doing so Mandelson used his personal mobile in the run-up to his appointment as ambassador before switching over to a work mobile just under a month into the role. He resumed using his personal mobile on his return to the UK after he was sacked in September The Tories said that under the terms of the “humble address”, a parliamentary mechanism that forces the government to disclose information, the Cabinet Office should have requested the messages from Mandelson. They said that the failure to do so “risks putting the government in contempt of parliament” Mandelson could not be compelled to hand it over, but others who used to work for government have been asked for messages from their personal devices thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Trump’s illegal Iran war could cost the UK economy a staggering £15bn. All cheered on by Reform and the Conservatives. Nigel Farage and Kemi Badenoch should apologise to every family now paying the price. standard.co.uk/news/politics/…

New £100,000 limit on overseas donations to UK political campaigns from today. Our elections should be decided by the people who live with the consequences, not by foreign financial influence. Democracy belongs to the voters it serves.

Why do people in restaurants think it’s fine to have loud conversations on FaceTime? It’s incredibly rude and intrusive. Just enjoy your lunch. And let me enjoy mine without having to hear from your auntie in America.

The first of Angela Rayner's speaking engagements has appeared on her register of interests She received £19,000 for a speech she gave at a dinner for the Management Consultancies Association on March 11, 2026. She said that it was for 5 hours, 45 minutes worth of work We can expect future disclosures on her BNP Paribas call with City investors, her forthcoming speech to estate agents at a property conference and the advance on her memoirs, which are being published later this year Allies say it will exceed £100,000 in total and enough to pay off any fine from HMRC plus any stamp duty that is due

For more than four decades, miners and their families have been forced to live with unanswered questions. Today, I am formally launching the Orgreave Inquiry to uncover the truth of what happened. I pay tribute to the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign, the National Union of Mineworkers, and all those who campaigned so tirelessly to reach this moment.

* Britain faces the biggest hit to growth from the Middle East war of all the G20 economies, the OECD has warned * The economy will grow by just 0.7% this year, compared to last forecast of 1.2% for 2026 * Inflation forecast to rise to 4% this year because of higher energy prices. It's up from 3.4% last year and the second highest level in the G7 * Report warns more broadly that 'prolonged disruption' will increase the cost of food because of issues with supply of fertiliser

Are the Government growing a spine? Banning crypto donations and a £100k cap from Britons abroad. We've been calling on them to do something about Reform's dodgy donations. Now they need to do something about GBNews. Well done, Sir Keir. theguardian.com/politics/live/…

The Constitution Hill knockers gang are a good insight to the British psyche. Do we celebrate the fact that a NINE year old ex Champion Hurdler is now having fun and enjoying himself on the flat?? Nope. He gets slated as being not good enough to win a Group (!) race. Telling.
