@colligocritters I have something similar where basically I started out in SpEd classes bc I was born disabled? And the staff did such a bad job taking care of us that I had to throw away my accomodations & be MAINSTREAMED just to save my life/be safe at school. I fled into regular classes 😭

@softpinkgiggles My dad actually did most of the childcare (and now my brother's a single father, so I'm not even the only one in the family who grew up like that) but I remember noticing this with other families as I got older. I was just BAFFLED. My dad cared for me even w/ a full-time job 😬

@SarahDorsey0231 @Nyct0phil3_x Dude I loved gardening with my grandma (I still do it with her now, actually!) but she waited until I was a little older for that. I think I was 3 or 4 when we started? Old enough that I knew to be gentle & not eat dirt. Maybe try again then!

@Nyct0phil3_x Not being rude but having tried exactly that taking a 2 yr old out to garden just meant constantly keeping them from destroying plants or eating dirt, didn't even risk doing it with horse stuff. Sewing required too much concentration. Hard to do stuff with a velcro kid.

I'm going to be harsh - shocking I know - but this is a choice.
You do not have to give up your hobbies, interests, passions or identity when having kids. This modern notion of needing to neurotically helicopter over your kids and sequester them away in "kid centric" activities is bizarre and stupid and boring. You can just take your kids to your events and activities. You can just do uour hobbies. You can tell your kids you're busy and to go and play independently.
You'll be happier for it and your kids will be more resilient and capable.

My parents apparently could leave me alone in my room for a while bc I was WEIRDLY peaceful & cautious. All they had to do was put on Noggin & set some toys in front of me & I'd just... chill

In an adjacent room, I would say. I wouldn't leave a 2 year old alone downstairs so I could go crochet. I'm not advocating for helicopter parenting at all. Kids need to make mistakes to learn.
