Christian population has collapsed from 1.5 million to 300,000. 🇳🇬 NIGERIA More Christians are killed for their faith in Nigeria than anywhere else in the world. Boko Haram, ISWAP, and Fulani militias operate freely. The government has largely failed to prosecute perpetrators. 🇵🇰 PAKISTAN 🔸 Christians are 1.8% of the population but absorb ~25% of blasphemy accusations — which carry a death sentence. 🔸 Mob lynchings of accused Christians are common. Entire Christian neighborhoods have been torched. 🔸 Christian girls are kidnapped, forcibly converted, and married off. Courts often back the perpetrators. 🇱🇾 LIBYA No functioning government to protect Christians. Foreign Christians are kidnapped and killed by Islamist groups. No legal protections exist. 🇮🇷 IRAN 🔸 96 Christians sentenced to 263 years in prison in 2024 alone — a sixfold increase year-over-year. 🔸 House churches are raided. Converts are charged with espionage and "enmity against God." 🔸 Apostasy is punishable by death. Government's stated goal: eradicate the Persian-speaking Church. 🇦🇫 AFGHANISTAN Christians face death if discovered. No public Christian communities exist. The Taliban is actively working to erase any Christian presence. 🇸🇦 SAUDI ARABIA 🔸 No churches allowed. No public Christian worship of any kind. 🔸 Apostasy and proselytizing are capital offenses under Sharia law. 🔸 Bibles are confiscated. Even private worship by expatriates can result in arrest and deportation. 🇲🇱 MALI / 🇧🇫 BURKINA FASO Pastors executed, churches burned, villages massacred. Governments have lost control of large swaths of territory to jihadist groups including Boko Haram and JNIM. 🇮🇶 IRAQ The Christian population has collapsed from 1.2 million in 2011 to just 120,000 in 2024 — driven by ISIS genocide. Christians are described as "close to extinction." 🇩🇿 ALGERIA All 47 Protestant evangelical churches in the country have been shut down. Thank you for your messages @richardpbacon Israel faces an enemy in Hezbollah that is committed, absolutely, to eradicating it. In other words it is committed, like Hamas, to genocide. If I were Israeli I’d want my govt to do its utmost to destroy it.  Even as a non Israeli I would like to see the group destroyed. It sends unguided rockets into civilian areas, it embeds itself in civilian areas, all but guaranteeing any response by Israel harms civilians and it has torn Lebanon apart - which is why so many in Lebanon despise the terror group.  All civilian deaths are abhorrent. In war they are also inevitable and much more so when the enemy goes out of its way to maximise the death of its own civilians (like Hamas, which despite all the billions it has spent on rockets and tunnels has never built any shelters for its civilians).  But if Israel were to succeed in removing the threat of Hezbollah (and/or Hamas) there will be vastly more civilian lives saved than lost.  I’ve just seen that you have bombarded me with tweets in the last 24 hours. I’m flattered you think my opinion matters that much. But I’m also confused why you only seem to be animated by casualties where you can blame Israel.  Tragically the world is full of horrors of a different magnitude. But you seem completely obsessed by Israel, even though its actions (unlike those of the IRGC, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Syrian govt, the Sudanese armed forces, the RSF, the Afghan govt etc) are very obviously governed by a desire to remove acute and direct risks to its own citizens from organisations that are unambiguously committed to genociding Israelis. Israeli attacks have resulted in civilian deaths. Like you I don’t know all the details. But I do know that is not the purpose of its attacks. Obviously I wish there were no civilian deaths caused by Israel or anyone else.  Even more, I wish death cult groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, ISIS, Boko Haram, Al-Shabaab, Taliban etc didn’t exist.  They are the real enemy Richard. Not Israel.

Khomeini and the Iranian Revolution of 1979 is one of history’s most brutal lessons in political betrayal. The revolution was not only carried by Islamists. It was a broad coalition. Leftists. Marxists. Intellectuals. Nationalists. All united by one thing - they wanted the Shah gone. And Khomeini let them do the work. He waited. He let all the other groups help overthrow the Shah. And then - once power was won - he systematically began to eliminate all his former allies. The leftists and Marxists who had fought by his side were the first to end up in the prisons and at the execution lines. The Tudeh Party - Iran’s Communist Party - was completely wiped out. The Mojahedin-e Khalq - left-wing Islamists - who had fought against the Shah were declared enemies and massacred. The bitter point: The leftists helped build the prison they ended up in themselves. This is exactly the same pattern we see in the West today - where leftists defend an ideology that would kill them for their values. History repeats itself. And those who refuse to learn it…are already building their own prison.
