@zackw_

It always makes me feel a little melancholy. Grand old war ship, being ignominiously hauled away to scrap… The inevitability of time, don’t you think?

Hi @ucb_news who can I call or write to at a very senior level to resolve a six month unpaid invoice? This is now causing operating problems with the business here.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 58 years ago today 116 children and 28 adults were killed when a coal spoil tip collapsed onto Aberfan and engulfed the village school. One of the darkest days in Wales' history. Remember Aberfan / Cofiwch Aberfan.

Ok Twitter - I’m going to write something here now that I wouldn’t have dreamed of doing up until recently and which I might end up regretting. It’s personal and going to make me feel vulnerable and might invite ridicule - please be charitable.

@zackw_ I'm afraid I don't. The photographer was American, so it might be in the States. But some people in the thread think it's in Europe. I'm sorry that I don't have the information to settle the matter.

My current mood at the end of a long week. Hooray for the weekend! Astoundingly, this timeless study of much needed "time out" was taken 117 years ago. The autochrome was photographed way back in 1907 by Alfred Stieglitz and speaks to us just as much today as it did in the Edwardian Era. (I wonder what might in her carafe? Pour me a glass please).... It's original colour and not colourised.

@mrjamesob⁩ James Sunak’s dribblings about the National Service is performative. He said it would be set up *after* a Royal Commission which is the poshest way of kicking the can down the road. Link to Inst of Gov is illuminating. instituteforgovernment.org.uk/article/commen…

I've cleaned for you this amazing salt print photo of London, taken nearly 200-years ago from Blackfriars Bridge by Henry Cundell. It was taken in 1844 and is the earliest photo of St Paul's and one of the earliest of London itself. Taken only a couple of months after the publication of 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens, this is an incredible and rare oppotunity to see the real Dickensian London, with St Pauls shrouded and obscured by the thick, smoggy air of old London town. A truly remarkable window through time!

This photograph was taken, in colour, exactly 106 years ago this very day, on Thursday 9th May 1918. The Great War still raged in Europe, but photographer Fernand Cuville travelled to Verona in northern Italy to capture this moment of serenity. I've cleaned & enhanced this autochrome for you, which is original colour (not colourised).

*** NEW VIDEO *** TeaTalk - A Tea Drinker’s Guide to Rhetoric Device of the day #14 A TAUTOSTOP - ‘Tea’s tea!’ A tautostop is not an ancient rhetorical device at all. I literally invented the term to categorise the increasingly ubiquitous (and occasionally infuriating) rhetorical device where a speaker uses tautology to stop debate. ‘It is what it is.’ Do you use tautostops to shut people up? Have tautostops ever been used to shut you up?! Can we get this word tautostop into the Oxford English Dictionary?! Enjoy! 😊👍🫖

@strandedatsea @AVMikhailova @Nigel_Farage My three would vote for all that and are also asking about future policy on treats. They seem to think there is a universal service obligation for their provision, we’re not so sure!
