hi-key asks two questions: What would you do if AI image generation took only a few seconds? What if it happened right where you type, without switching apps? I often underestimate how much friction shapes what people use a product for. This project was a good reminder.

Joined a new AI-native company this week and it’s kind of wild how different it feels already. The laptop arrived, I logged in, and an agent basically took over from there. It set up my dev env, pulled repos, fixed dependency issues, got permissions approved, pointed me at the backlog, linked the architecture docs, and surfaced the Slack debates I actually needed to read before touching production. When I needed context on something, I asked the agent and it found the exact thread from months ago explaining why a decision was made, who owned it, the related Linear issues, and the PRs connected to it. I’ve only been here 3 days but it honestly feels like I’ve worked here for a year because the usual friction and scavenger hunt for context just isn’t there anymore. We should probably stop calling this “onboarding” and rename it to “mounting” because this feels a lot more like mounting a distributed filesystem called “institutional memory” than slowly getting drip-fed context over 6 months.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t care if most web apps look the same. All I care about is whether it does what it says and does it fast. Make it fast. Make the UX obvious. Put the right things in the right place and little to no animations.

Over 55% of 3-day trials are cancelled on Day 0. That’s over half gone before they can possibly have experienced the value of your app. But the problem isn’t your paywall. It’s not even your onboarding. It’s the (missing) step in-between: the post-purchase screen.

one of the most refreshing things on the planet is talking to someone who just *gets it*. like you don’t need a preamble, & you don’t need to articulate the shape of the thought before you can share it cuz they just meet you where you already are. as if they skimmed your mind & married to the culture before you say a single word. these people are rare, & conversations with them are incredible because you skip the surface layer entirely & land in the depth almost immediately. they’re the best ppl to riff with, ideate with, & think forward with.. the bandwidth is wide & already open. this is true for any type of relationship.
