In NSW the Socialists have renamed to “New South Wales Soc” for state registration They still have a chance to rename to “Socialists” closer to the 2027 election (depending on the future situation with Socialist Alliance)
Leonardo Puglisi tweet media

The Victorian Socialists will reapply for AEC registration under the name "Australian Socialist Party" (previously applied as just "Socialist Party") They say Socialist Alliance has NOT "acted to prevent our registration" but "has rejected our calls for unity"

@irregulargrapes It’s also weird as ‘let’s do dinner at your house and switch off who’s cooking’ is genuinely one of the easiest ways to get to spend time with friends who have little kids. You feed the kids, get them off to bed, and then can have adult socialising time afterwards.

look at all the people in the comments using their motivated reasoning to justify why "spending time with people" and "doing nice things for your friends" are actually bad things
Cranky Federalist@CrankyFed

If you're single and most of your friends are married with kids, you can just go to their houses and cook dinner You get to see your friends, they don't have to take their kids anywhere, and they can do other parent things while you're cooking

@samlutd No, it doesn’t require 5 years as his sentence, it’s a crime with a maximum sentence of at least 5 years. Which is already met: 3 counts have penalties of up to 5 years and 1 has up to 14. It’s waiting on the appeal period now.

BTW, if he is sentenced to more than 5 years imprisonment, he will be forced to resign - under s13A(d) of the NSW Constitution. That will depend on, obviously, what sentence he receives

🚨MISSING HIKERS FOUND Two missing hikers were found safe near Carruthers Peak around 4am Sunday. NSW SES Alpine Search and Rescue Unit assisted NSW Police in a blizzard search after they failed to return from a hike. A strong reminder to always be prepared in alpine conditions.

I don't get drips. The Coalition sets itself on fire and drips complain that the media are covering the Liberals (Labor won 94 seats, didn't you know?) But of course when there is drama in Labor and the media covers that it's: the Liberals are in chaos, why don't you cover that?

@Robs_au Benefits of coming up via Council I guess - Laxale is used to making sure everyone’s seen his face at every event, fete, concert and awards, and doing the division office work of untangling bureaucratic messes.

To be honest I think it's also a bit of a reflection of good old fashioned just doing the hard yards of being an active and visible local MP for three solid years. Bennelong has not had this in anyone's living memory (Howard, McKew and Alexander simply did not do this).

Bennelong booth-level 2PP is out and damn - the LP only won a single booth - Hunters Hill PS. The weird belief in some kind of "Chinese bloc" is a total bust. Looks like only real support that didn't completely crumble is the old money areas - HH, Putney, Longueville. #ausvotes

@laenij Aka more like NZ or UK systems. If you have a standard deduction that prefills for everyone, then unless you have ABN/small business income, or complex tax affairs, or likely deductions over $1,000 to enter, most tax returns could be automatically filed.

@laenij The benefit of an instant deduction is that it simplifies tax form lodgements, so that there’s the potential they can move to automatically lodging people’s taxes if they’re basic, and people only need to log in to add additional information for things that don’t prefill
