PTI demands immediate transfer of Imran Khan to Shifa for urgent eye treatment
April 9 regime-change conspiracy plunged a thriving country into chaos: Waqas
PTI condemns Israel’s strikes in Lebanon, urges Pakistan to ensure strict observance of ceasefire terms
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram voiced grave concern over the rapidly deteriorating eyesight of party founder Imran Khan, reiterating the demand of his family and the party to shift him to Shifa International Hospital for proper medical treatment.
He described April 9 as a black day when the well-performing PTI government led by Imran Khan was ousted through a regime-change conspiracy. He recalled that the PTI government had delivered 63 major achievements during its short tenure.
In a strongly worded statement on Thursday, the PTI CIS said the nation would not tolerate any negligence in the medical care of the unlawfully incarcerated PTI chairman-for-life. He said the details regarding Imran Khan’s eyesight, shared by his counsel Salman Safdar, were extremely alarming.
He demanded that the authorities provide unhindered access to Imran Khan for his family, lawyers, and party leadership, and allow him to receive treatment at Shifa International Hospital under the guidance and supervision of his personal physicians.
Waqas criticized the authorities for denying Imran Khan’s legal and constitutional rights, including access to adequate healthcare facilities, television, newspapers, and meetings, and for keeping him in solitary confinement. He called for the restoration of all the rights to which Imran Khan is entitled as a former prime minister.
The PTI CIS also expressed concern over the treatment of Imran Khan’s spouse, Bushra Bibi, stating that she had not been allowed to meet him despite being a former first lady.
He urged the authorities to make urgent and war-footing arrangements for the PTI founder’s medical treatment and to put an end to ongoing oppression.
Talking about the April 9, 2022 regime-change conspiracy, Sheikh Waqas termed it a dark day when the PTI government led by Imran Khan was toppled and replaced by a public-rejected, selfish and power-greedy group. He said the country continues to pay a heavy price for the conspiracy, which pushed a well-performing nation to the brink of disaster—plunging it into a deepening debt burden, a mass exodus of educated and skilled youth, soaring inflation, widespread unemployment, the politicisation of state institutions, and the erosion of hard-won peace.
Highlighting the performance of the then PTI government, Waqas said that during its tenure the administration delivered 63 major achievements across governance, economy, welfare, foreign policy, and institutional reforms.
He stated that Imran Khan became one of the first world leaders to raise the issue of Islamophobia at the United Nations, leading to the observance of an international day against Islamophobia. He said the PTI government gave a strong response to India during heightened tensions, ended drone strikes inside Pakistan, and initiated major dam projects. He added that exports increased significantly and policies were introduced to convert penalties and fines into avenues for investment.
Waqas further said the PTI government created employment opportunities, boosted textile and IT exports, and launched the Billion Tree Tsunami environmental initiative. He claimed that farmer-friendly policies resulted in record crop production and that the Sehat Sahulat Program provided free medical treatment of up to Rs1 million for families. He also mentioned the establishment of shelters for the homeless under the Panagah project.

Open letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshall Asim Munir ;
Cease fire in the Iran war has brought a sense of relief around the world. We hope and pray that this ceasefire will convert into a sustainable permanent peace agreement. The role Pakistan has played in making the ceasefire possible has been admired globally. Your leadership role in Pakistans efforts to make this possible is highly commendable and appreciated. More than anything else, this ceasefire and the extremely positive reaction around the world including the global financial and commodity markets, shows the dividends that peace and stability bring.
The global acclaim and the increased relevance of Pakistan is an incredible opportunity. An opportunity that we must build upon. This will require sustained focused efforts in all spheres of state and society to carry out a national reconstruction which leads us towards security and prosperity. The most vital and urgent of these efforts has to be to bring peace and stability within Pakistan. We have extreme polarization in our polity ,and a trust deficit between state and citizen which is at dangerous levels. If this is not addressed, fear is that the opportunity that has been created will be transient, and we will once again be left to rue what could have been.
Without wasting any time, an initiative should be taken to create a consensus on how to move the country forward in a manner that all the key stakeholders, and most importantly the people of Pakistan believe in and endorse. The PM should announce this initiative and it should have the following core elements.
1)Release of Imran Khan and all other political prisoners
2)Initiation of a dialogue of all political parties to work out a new charter of democracy
3)An agreement on timetable for next elections and reforms, including a reconstitution of the Election Commission and a code of conduct for all political parties in this interim period, which should take place before the country holds the next election
4)An agreement on the Governance structure until these next elections are held.
All the above must be done within the bounds of the constitution, recognizing that the ultimate power in the country belongs to the people of Pakistan.
Pakistanis want the national leadership to rise to the occasion, above personal and even institutional interest, and truly set a new path of progress and inclusive development. I truly believe that those leaders who shall be a part of this national reconstruction agreement will have their names etched in history as the men and women, who once and for all, set Pakistan on the path the founders led by Quaide azam envisioned when the country was founded.
May Allah guide you in taking decisions which are in the best interest of the people of Pakistan.
Regards
Asad Umar
