@imnotthatAnon @TheBeanEyesOpen And keep it uncapped in your pocket. You won't have time to rummage through a handbag or take the lid off when that... muscle pain strikes.
English

@TheBeanEyesOpen Since you don't usually do that walk and could easily pull a muscle.
I recommend carrying a can of Deep Heat spray just in case.

I live in a TINY village in sunny Somerset.
My friend, who also lives in the same village, told me this morning that 3 African black men have been moved into the village.
I’ve got a feeling they’re neither doctors nor engineers.
I’m now going to have to go out in the evening to walk my daughter back from work at the other end of the village, because I have to. I’m not risking it. I’m mum. I shouldn’t be having to do this in a quiet, little place like ours.
Fuck it. None of us should be having to do this.
When is it enough?
English

@jk_rowling @iowntheterf Someone should send him a copy of Fahrenheit 451, assuming he has the appropriate reading and understanding requisites.

The police, four seconds after discovering that Ann Widdecombe had been murdered:
‘One thing we can say for absolutely sure, is that this murder is not terror related in any way’.
The police, one day later, after massive discussions on X about it:
‘We’ve handed the investigation over to the anti terrorism branch’.

@negativevortex_ Hard agree.
I'm so tired of clicking the 'transfer call' button to then say out loud that 'I AM NOT A BLOODY INTERPRETER, & I'M EXHAUSTED JUST TRYING TO UNDERSTAND YOU, & STOP SNARLING AT ME WHEN I ASK YOU TO SPELL RATAERUPOYFHYU EWRIGU FUFHOOPGD'.
PS: Scrabble names suck

Gotta give it to the Guardian. No matter how intellectually bereft their hit pieces are...that won't stop them having a crack.
I've read a few people bemoaning the absence of high-powered intellect within the ON inner sanctum, and I tend to agree - this may prove to be corrosive to their fortunes over the next 18 months.
But this crack from the Guardian falls a bit short - I'm particularly drawn to the line "not everyone has the opportunity to learn English in their countries"
What utter BS. I have travelled to some decidedly poor and wretched parts of the world the past 5 years (I'm also a seed investor in a solar company that focusses on last mile in 3rd world - this is dirt poor territory).
What I can tell you is that mobile telephony and internet access is practically ubiquitous. It's not the phone, its not the web, nor browser or content - their greatest challenge is a continual powersource.
There is almost nobody alive who does not have a phone, access and opportunity to learn English.
Remember this - ON policy would exempt children, and it would exempt refugees. It focuses on applicants, their partners and parents - who are attached to what are ostensibly *skilled worker* or student visas.
But now to *my* valid concerns. If you have not bothered to learn English prior to getting your visa, what incentive do you have to secure it after arrival? None. Especially where time, cost and effort are involved.
Does the Guardian also fail to realise the horrid effects of patriarchy in many of these communities?
What chance a muslim man would tolerate his wife leaving the house without him, simply to learn English? Ahem...none. None whatsover.
Knowing this (just the scenario I am advising here - muslim man and wife) - do you not also realise you consign this woman to servitude, pretty much forever, after her arrival?
Now...extend this out to her children. When the mother of the household can only converse with children in her home tongue...how are they likely to converse?
This sh*t should end here and now. I am sick of the excuses. They're not only intellectually bankrupt arguments, but they're also promoting structures detrimental to our society.
You learn English to a defined standard to arrive.
you ought then display it to a better level to move to permanent residency.
and higher again for citizenship. that's promoting a shared culture.

@SydneyLWatson Just don't love it so much that you buy a shirt and wear it with a cardi. To the shops. Multiple shops. Without looking in the mirror before leaving home.

Bros, I have another film suggestion -
A few people recommended Project Hail Mary, so I gave it a watch last night.
It was so good. 😭 Again, reminds me of how movies used to be. Super lovely story. Enough science stuff to feel interesting. Made me laugh a bunch.
Was a good watch. It won't make you cry from political messaging. 😂

@iSpeakTheTruthy @macsween_prue You're right! I'm not a victim! Oh my, your insight is breathtaking!
Now re-read the last sentence of my first comment.
English

@zdacey @macsween_prue You're not a victim, you need to take a hard look at yourself if that's what people are calling you.

We don’t need to “tolerate”. We welcome those who come to this country and embrace our way of life and values. We should not have to tolerate those who threaten us, bring their angst from overseas and disrupt our peace & have no respect for our values, laws & want to feed off our welfare system, making no contribution.
Anthony Khallouf@ausvstheagenda
NSW Premier Chris Minns says multiculturalism is a vital part of “modern Australia” because it teaches us to tolerate people from different cultures. He says anyone who disagrees is pandering to the right.

@DrLukeWright @Texas_Nana_ I truly love these conversations on X. Good people who don't know each other supporting each other. I wish for serenity in both your hearts. 💜

Warning: Alzheimer's Post.
Last night my husband forgot who I was again. He also managed to unhook the bathroom door and get out of the house before I could get out of the shower & dress. It took me 15 panicked minutes to find him in the neighborhood. People simply don't understand how difficult it is to watch the man you love above all people except Jesus, respect more than any person alive, slowly disappear.
For everyone who is currently complaining about your spouse, pause, take a long long look at them and remember when you least expect it you can lose them in many ways.
I'm so grateful that today is a "good day" and he's aware of who he is and who I am.

@Aussie_GC_Man And she is the mother of a son. That poor little boy, growing up with her as his primary influence...

@PaulEmbery Reposted by accident, as I wanted to rant about the massive uptick in Family Law Court actions by same-sex parents that I process at work.
It would be nice if they put the kids first for a change.

Yes, she did believe that. And the truth is that, until about 12 years ago, it was also the general view of most people in society (and still happens to be the view of the established church in this country today). Disagree with it, by all means. But to present it as some kind of extremist opinion is plainly ridiculous.
English

@LJensen41642 @AkkadSecretary And then I get the callbacks saying 'I spoke to your colleague a minute ago but I couldn't understand a word she said'.
But that's fine. It's not like the safety of children can depend on being able to communicate with child protection services in English in Australia. 🙄
English

@AkkadSecretary Same as Australia. The imports can somehow finish a masters at a a major university despite being unable to speak or understand english.

Almost everyone i met in my Physics degree cheated on every single bit of course work in every single year group.
After failing a coding exam in year 2 the teacher finished it for me and tried to get me to hand it in.
I told him obvious not this is fraud.
Spent the next few hours chatting with him, every single teacher new every single student was cheating and the system does not care as each pass is thousands of £.
Got my honest idiot tier grade.
The entire university system in the UK produces nothing of value, even in STEM as its just min/maxed for churning students into debt slaves for £.
Same as the United States.
The AI scare is just exposing how bad the fraud is.
Paul Graham@paulg
A Brown professor gave his students a take-home midterm exam. After suspecting many cheated using AI, he made the final in-person. The orange dots are the midterm scores and the gray dots are the final scores. Looks like all but 3 cheated on the midterm.

@CrazyDaysPoster Come on, guys. “Actress offspring” is always referencing Margaret Qualley because her mom is not quite famous enough to call her a nepo baby. You kids never would have survived the Toothy Tile days or the amazing writing styles of Michael K.

@StevesThrillers Mine are random, but because they're stacked vertically and slanted, the ones I use most often end up at the top, but I can still access the bottom ones easily. Brilliant bit of McGuyvering in a small space, if I do say so myself.

Like many people, I have a reasonably well stocked spice cabinet in the kitchen. Some people find it odd my spices are alphabetized from right to left. My brother-in-laws favorite hobby is to randomly rearrange them.
I also have an assortment of spices in the pantry for making large quantities of food. They are not exactly sorted. I just sort of know what is where.
