#BreakingNews @WSJ: “#China’s #cyber-#espionage capabilities are now as sophisticated as the U.S.’s and are increasingly targeting Western defense industries, said the head of Dutch military intelligence.” “Dutch Vice Adm. Peter Reesink said China is largely interested in gaining access to technologies from Western militaries and arms producers, and also in spotting vulnerabilities. He made the comments after his agency, known in Dutch as MIVD, released an annual report on Tuesday that said Beijing poses a growing threat to Europe alongside Russia and that the two countries’ increasing cooperation compounds the danger.” “Chinese cyber-espionage operations are “very capable, and they are organized in a very complex way,” Reesink, the agency’s director, said in an interview. “We are vulnerable and we’re not always capable of seeing all the threats China produces.”” “The Dutch report adds to a chorus of Western spy services flagging rising risks for the West—targeting both military and civilian assets—from Beijing and Moscow’s global ambitions.” … … … wsj.com/world/chinas-c…

A Tsinghua professor sent his three kids to America to study. Not because he thinks American education is better, but because his three children weren't as smart as him, and not able to get into Tsinghua (regression to the mean nerfing IQ of his kids) Of course, if rich Chinese people's kids could get into Tsinghua or Peking, all parents would prefer that over any Western school. Chinese top unis are the ultimate big brain street-cred. However, the reality is that you can't buy your way into these schools, you can't grind your way in- you have to be born with a 140+ IQ and still work your ass off. So most rich parents have no choice but to send their kids to a top 20 US school.

I think what is remarkable about China's building a new outpost at Antelope Reef is that the outpost lies outside of Vietnam's EEZ. China's action confirms that it doesn't want to jeopardize its relations with Vietnam over the maritime disputes. nytimes.com/interactive/20…

This is nonsense. Multiple UN resolutions (which China supported) imposed an arms embargo & sanctions on North Korea's nuclear weapons & missile programme. NZ is enforcing those resolutions. If China has any evidence of harassment or unprofessional flying they should produce it.

1. For the sake of clarity, none of the UN Security Council resolutions authorizes military aircraft of any country to conduct close-range harassment and reconnaissance in the vicinity of another nation's territory. 2. Based on solid evidence, the unsafe and unprofessional operations of New Zealand military aircraft disrupted the normal operation of hundreds of civil aviation flights. 3. New Zealand military aircraft's repeated close-in harassments in relevant airspace in a provocative manner were conducted even within 30 nautical miles of China’s coastline. These actions ran counter to the basic norms of international relations and posed a threat to China’s sovereignty and security. No sovereign country would accept this.
