“Misinformed hate should not be part of our Malaysian identity.” komas.org/stop-facilitat… Powerful statement from Pusat KOMAS condemning the @Change petition against Rohingya refugees and calling for its removal. Malaysia needs rights-based refugee policy and not scapegoating, misinformation & mass xenophobia.

Majority of those who are openly xenophobic and racist- calling for the “removal “ of Rohingya refugees are Muslims themselves. Whilst shedding fake tears for Palestinians and Bosnians thousands of miles away, the very same people call for removal of the Rohingyas, who are victims of genocide. They brand Rohingyas as dirty, greedy, violent - the very same type of justification used by the Zionists against Palestinians. Rohingyas have been massacred and chased away from their own country- they are stateless and been forced to flee for their lives for decades. But some Malaysians think it’s ok to attack them, dox them, deny them basic humanitarian help etc. It is hypocritical to forget that in a couple of weeks we will celebrate awal Muharram that marks Hijrah, the day the Prophet (PBUH) left Mecca and sought refuge in Madina - and at the same time there are these attacks upon muslim brethren who are not the “right type of refugees” and calls out for them to be chased away. Where will they go - into the sea or to be slaughtered in Myanmar? And yet this Madani government provides no moral leadership - in the midst of worsening hatred, online attacks and harassment against these desperate refugees. What will it take to end this bigotry? The bleached bones of dead Rohingyas flashed across our TV screens?

A Malaysian petition calling for the “removal” of Rohingya refugees has gathered more than 90,000 signatures. What is striking is not only the demand, but the language around it. It is aboutresources, security, public order, “humane solutions”, third-country resettlement. This is how anti-Rohingya racism learns to speak as policy. Full analysis coming shortly.

Malaysia 🇲🇾 Anti-refugee and anti-Rohingya sentiment is a real and growing concern. Malaysian authorities must ensure the protection of all refugees, including Rohingya who have fled ongoing atrocities by the Myanmar military and Arakan Army. This petition is not the right approach. change.org/p/remove-rohin…

It is necessary to remember that every person deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and fairness regardless of their nationality, ethnicity, or background. Promoting understanding and empathy is essential to building stronger and more inclusive communities.2/2

As someone who has experienced xenophobia and hateful comments on social media, I know how painful it is to be judged simply because of where you come from. Every community has both good and bad individuals, and it is unfair to blame an entire group for the actions of a few.1/2

Another undeniable act of maritime piracy by the Israeli Navy. Hijacking (not intercepting) civilian vessels 75 miles off Cyprus and violently cutting communications is a lawless assault on humanitarian aid. And the detention of over 100 international activists is state-sponsored abduction. The international community’s silence only normalises this lawlessness. Rohingya activist Ko Tinmaung is part of the peaceful Sumud Flotilla. He has been abducted, forced onto a floating military prison and is probably now in the port of Ashdod. The Israeli state prefers blatant piracy over allowing basic human solidarity to reach Gaza.

The violence of 1942 did not begin the way some try to portray it. Thousands of Rohingya civilians were massacred, and hundreds of thousands were forced to flee their homes in Arakan. For decades, Rohingya have endured killings, displacement, statelessness, and genocide.

A rare Rohingya Gen-Z movement is openly challenging intimidation and camp power structures in Cox’s Bazar. My latest in Dhaka Tribune: dhakatribune.com/opinion/longfo… Since publication, events have escalated further. - Abdul Halim has been killed - the RCPR office has effectively emptied out - FIR documents relating to Halim’s killing name Dil Mohammed among the accused/suspects - Gen-Z activist Sahat Zia says he is facing false allegations after speaking out Read about those issues here: rohingyarefugee.news/p/rcpr-abdul-h…
