I’m not sure why we still have a monarch. It seems like a medieval anachronism to me; a demonstration of inherited status and the the pinnacle of an entrenched aristocracy. And I’m really not sure why our monarch has gone to the US to stand next to another man with too much power, land and money.

Imagine, then, how it feels to be Australian - we have even less need of Britain’s medieval nonsense but are still forced to bow to your King as our Head of State and Monarch, purely because Australian politicians have either been enthralled by royalty or too stupid to challenge it. A Monarch who has virtually no institutional power to act... What is your alternative? An elected president? An anarcho-syndicalist commune where we take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week, but where all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special biweekly meeting?
