Tree plantation work has finally begun along sections of the open spaces created as part of the Mumbai Coastal Road project, with activity currently underway in pockets of Worli and similar work expected to start soon at Breach Candy. Civic officials said soil testing and land preparation are presently being carried out to assess which tree species can sustainably survive on the reclaimed land along the Arabian Sea. A pre-monsoon target has been set of planting around 15,000 trees, while the broader landscaping plan for the project envisages nearly 60,000 trees and over two lakh shrubs in phases over the next couple of years.
