Top-5 pick would be great, don’t get me wrong. BUT it also means we lose full control of both 2027 and 2028 1st rounders instead of just one - in a time of little clarity on the future of the team nonetheless. What if 34 asks out? Really difficult situation.

@JasonGregor The problem started with bringing in guys like Marleau and Tavares who never had that in them, then you add Thornton who goofed around all the time and then "vets" like Simmonds who had never won anywhere.

Not sure why people are surprised by no response from TOR after hit on Matthews. That is their culture. They have a few guys like McCabe and Domi, who will stand up, but their leadership core never has. You can change coach, GM all you like, but they don't set the on-ice tone. Crosby and Malkin stood up for themselves and team followed. Kane, Toews and Keith did for Chicago. Doughty did with the Kings. Ovechkin in Washington. Point, Kucherov and Hedman in TB. MacKinnon and Landeskog in COL. Stone, Pietrangelo in VGK. Tkachuk, Bennett, Ekblad in FLA. McDavid and Draisaitl push back. TOR core never has. It isn't in them and it filters down.

@canadaNHL Yeah Domi and Joshua you are better sending to AHL and saving the $1.35M and being free after two years. Rielly definitely is buyout worthy… be nice to trade him and retain $2M for four years instead of the buy out for eight, but I’m not bringing him back.

I think the Roy deal is solid value in general & looks great if TOR's forecasting what myself & others have hypothesized for 2026-27 C depth: Matthews X Tavares Quillan Continue to sell pieces (the 3 scratches +) so you have future assets to be involved in big off-season trades
