@robsuddaby @RobertJanezic And SF is "just" a CRM tool, so isn't the source of ALL the data that many businesses want insights from. There will be separate admin platforms where much of the valuable business data sits and from my experience it's the external data which matters most outside of sales teams.

@StyleSTEAMed @SohaElghany Not much and it's why I came to realise tying your flag to one mast was an exercise in futility. It's your core skill-set that matters more than the tool which surfaces those skills. I barely get to use either tool any more anyway 😅

@StyleSTEAMed @SohaElghany Same here and I think it'll be an ongoing trend. In many cases it seems product procurement decisions aren't necessarily based on best product, more so on a perceived one-stop shop. Never mind the PITA to migrate from one reporting tool to another.....

@SohaElghany It's already happening in my org. We have a renewed partnership with Microsoft that's eventually going to bend most reporting to PBI.

@RobertJanezic The inverse is obviously true. Maybe Tableau licensing becomes more affordable now as a Salesforce customer, but who has the bigger footprint in companies with no current BI solution: Salesforce or Microsoft? Suspect it's the latter and that's the cross-sell area of BI growth.

@RobertJanezic That's why your ecosystem observations are so relevant. I suspect many companies procure BI tools not based on that tool in isolation, but where it sits in a wider package. Can I negotiate a better O365 rate as a Power BI customer? Maybe. What if I'm a Tableau customer? Nope.

@RobertJanezic I think it's a balanced and fair synopsis Robert. Unfortunately the harsh reality of acquisition is that at some point it is followed by rationalisation. I think you've pretty much nailed the context around ecosystems and what the medium-term impact of that is likely to be.

Please feel free to voice your opinion. I'd love to hear from others. What did I get right? What did I get wrong? There's a lot of nuance to this convo and I know I'm missing things. Needed to focus on a few areas. Much Love 🤙✌️

@MarkBradbourne I'm not saying Power BI is great. I prefer Tableau but sometimes you don't get a choice and sometimes you don't actually need a choice. I just find the need to argue the toss about software, footballers, consoles all a bit long in the tooth and pointless.

@MarkBradbourne We had some less than perfect technical deployment mistakes (our end) with Tableau which resulted in some performance issues. They're a bummer but rarely a major issue that persisted for longer than a more than acceptable period of time.
