Personally. I never feared Covid (for myself) for a single day.
Not one.
Part of that is because very early on, I spoke to several true experts whom I trusted, including ones who helped develop the vaccines (and told me in advance "they won't work very well or last very long because we've never had a successful RNA vaccine..."), and all of my natural instincts, they said, were correct when I verbalized them.
I don't blame those who were scared. There was a dearth of fair and accurate reporting on this topic, to say the least. By design. There was a top notch well funded scare campaign at the highest levels.

@EricTopol Good argument for keeping the dose to a minimum. My doctor noticed an adverse liver blood test result while on 10 mg atorvastatin, which I brought in range by cutting the pills in half (because 5 mg dosage not available).

I'm very pro-statins for their incontrovertible benefit vs atherosclerotic buildup and reduction of cardiovascular adverse events. Their benefits greatly overrides the risks.
However, I always keep in mind 2 key side-effects:
1. Inducing Type 2 diabetes, uncommon, but more likely with aggressive dosing of statins. I've written about this concern since 2012 in a @nytimes oped and got a lot of flak for it. Can be missed by clinicians not cued it.

The notion that your doctor's training is an indicator of their skill is a fallacy. There is no medical school, residency or fellowship that always produces flawless doctors. Any graduate of any training program is capable of making mistakes. I've seen big saves and huge errors in doctors from Harvard. Also seen big saves and enormous errors in community docs who trained miles from Ivy league hospitals outside the US.

Physicians are NOT quitting medicine like this curve suggests. This interpretation of the graph is entirely incorrect. The Kaplan-Meier curve was generated from a subgroup of 521 physicians who left clinical medicine. The graph simply shows the distribution of career durations AMONG PHYSICIANS WHO LEFT PRACTICE, not the retention of the overall physician workforce over time. Please, please, please read these studies carefully before posting the findings!

Looks as bad as some of the survival curves in oncology! 20% are gone in 5 years! 5 years!! They train for 7 years after college and quit in less than that. They get out as soon as they can! That says one thing clearly - Graduating doctors are realizing that this is not what they signed up for The gaslighting during med school and residency fades fast in private practice. Unless our Medical Schools do a better job of screening admission candidates, we won’t have any Doctors. If you don’t want to practice FULL time for at least 20-25 years, pick another profession.
