use of overwhelming force. basically it's to discourage you from fighting back in any capacity because "ALL of us will come for you" kind of thing. it's a very common and effective tactic used in villages where there might be very little to no police presence at all. so then you have "mob justice" take over. so just think if you live in a village of say like 100 people, and this dude comes at you with 19 adult men, and then who knows how many people they have in their families that they can convince to hate you too. now you might have 20 dudes coming for you and 40 other people in the village who will look the other way. now you ended up with over 50% of the people you live with in your community that don't care what happens to you or your family. it's mostly used to chase away invaders though, like gypsies. basically you get the entire village together and hope your group is big enough to scare and chase away the group of gypsies that are coming through looking to steal your shit.
