@BerniedBro @_ericblanc In this case the leadership tried to force nurses to take a deal that their rank and file bargaining committee had already rejected.

@_ericblanc I don't understand the framing that whenever union membership rejects a contract it's somehow a repudiation of leadership. Leadership putting what they negotiate to a vote and letting the democratic process play out is what they SHOULD be doing & rejection can give them leverage

@SusanBEdelman The Chancellor's Reg is very clear: only use for political campaigns for office is prohibited. @SusanBEdelman is using some selective quotation here. This is a solidarity school for training of members of 501c3 / c5 unions and community orgs and is a welcome use of public space.

Under NYC rules, the use of any public school by a "political organization" is prohibited, even after school hours (except for candidate forums in which "all candidates are invited to participate,") Chancellor's reg D-130 states. The DOE has not explained why it granted a permit for this all-day political event at the Murry Bergtraum HS complex near City Hall. pwsblobprd.schools.nyc/prd-pws/docs/d…

Whoever it is will quickly be replaced by Bennett Fischer! But don’t keep us in suspense - tell is who it will be @TeacherArthurG
teacherarthurg.bsky.social@TeacherArthurG

We're hearing that @UFT RTC boss Tom Murphy will be replaced with another Mulgrew lackey, who will continue the fight to decimate our health care. Her working motto is, "I'm not Tom Murphy." Appealing though that may be, protect your rights and vote for @RetireeAdvocUFT.

@HankeyLeone @elliotrlewis Budgets are political documents. If DSA members can’t have an open and public discussion about what our budgetary priorities are for the organization - even in a time of financial difficulties - then what is the point of building a Democratic working class organization?

@elliotrlewis I’ll check this out later, but the most important point is that if factions start hostile public attacks over cutback decisions, DSA is doomed and Dsa is too important to do that. We are in a financial crisis and nobody’s going to be happy but everything‘s gonna have to be cut.

NYC Educators inspired by our siblings in @UAW: a victory in auto will be a victory for every worker in the country! @UFT wasn’t strike-ready for our recent contract, but the positive example from #HotLaborSummer is convincing rank and filers we need to be for the next one…

Voting NO on this #UFT contract b/c it is implicitly based on the billions of health care concessions being negotiated in the giveaway of our insurance plan by the MLC. Next year we will see higher costs & worse care. These sub-inflation wage increases aren't worth it!

@educatorsofnyc I don’t think this is _substantially_ better than the city pattern… but it is better than the DC37 deal, no? DC37 got 3%, 3%, 3.25% for ‘23-25 & a $3K bonus. Hard to know exactly the value of the leave improvements & other wins compared to the equity/childcare funds won by DC37

New TWU contract. No, they didn’t beat the pattern despite claiming to do so. But … notice educators that maternity paid leave is now 12 weeks!

@MThunder15 @MOREcaucusUFT That may be true in the current, demobilized state of the UFT. But if we can raise expectations through education and action, we shift what colleagues will accept & force leadership to fight 4 more. Here's a next step (which we need to be followup with by pickets & sickouts)

@MOREcaucusUFT Good luck. Our union won’t stand for more and our members will agree to anything. We’ll probably take less than 3%.
