Most drivers now leave at least 1.5m of space when passing cyclists but this careless driver had two goes at close passing which led to the police offering her a self-funded safer driving course to be completed in her own time at her own expense.

@climbtechy Why should the public give up their space so drivers can park for 96% of the time? In much of Japan, you can’t buy a car unless you can store it on private land. A good idea!

That people think nothing of prioritising public space for empty and unused cars, which are parked 96% of the time (on average), over alternative uses, such as protected cycle tracks for all to use, is the biggest swindle ever carried out by the motor lobby.

@TheRoadPadrone Agree. Bikeability could be paid to run the cycling side. Should be completed in rush hour on busy roads. Could be diversionary for points and a fine.

Over the past few weeks I've been trying out the My Bike Traffic data field with my Garmin Varia radar and Edge 530. It was a lot easier to setup than I expected. The data fields I'm using are; the actual approaching speed of the vehicle behind and the distance it is away.

Just because a cyclist is in a cycle lane and you are in the main lane it doesn't mean you can pass them leaving less than 'as least 1.5m of space'. Do you think you could fit a Kia Picanto (1.6m) in this gap?

Ah @MaiaDunphy The great thing about telling the truth is you never need to remember what you said. You joined us at our table and stayed with us for over two hours and we all actually had a great night. But feel free to make up nonsense. I’m not sure what has happened you and I genuinely hope you are ok.
