@RolandDaudeles @alexeheath Are you part of the polling group? Did they designate you as the leader to speak for all of them? Interesting. What else can you tell me that the people who were polled think about AI?

@MaxEllison2048 @alexeheath Nope, we hate it. It makes people lazy, measurably less intelligent, and they lose their critical thinking skills. All while making up statistics and sources, churning out meaningless slop, and damaging our environment. It’s an enormous net negative.

Today's Stanford AI Index shows that people hate AI. The attacks on Sam Altman's home over the weekend show what's at stake. sources.news/p/ai-reputatio…

@GaryMarcus Also funny that this is a self fulfilling prophecy as you've been one the main leaders of the anti-AI movement. It's been a feedback loop of AI hate turning off creatives who could have been generating better content. Mostly grifters are using it giving us mostly slop.

@GaryMarcus In the US. This isn't true in China. Does this mean AI can be a great thing in China where people like it, use it and are optimistic about it?

@pangramlabs I would say the world needs some artificial positivity. Social media generated artificial negativity through the algorithm rewards. This might be a nice counter balance.

We collaborated with researchers at Stanford, Imperial College, and the Internet Archive to investigate public perception of AI's prevalence on the internet. In 2025, 35% of newly published websites on the open internet were AI-generated or AI-assisted. Internet users are overwhelmingly cynical about this: 75% of people polled felt that an AI-dominated internet will be less accurate, and 83% believed that AI will collapse unique writing style into a monoculture. AI is shrinking the diversity of views online, and as AI content proliferates, online writing also becomes artificially cheerful: the average positive sentiment score for AI-generated and AI-assisted documents was 107% higher than for non-AI websites. AI-generated text has the potential to erode trust in the primary way we access information. It's clear that the proportion of the internet that is AI generated is only going to increase, and could exceed 50% by 2027. We're concerned about this problem and proud to have contributed to this research. The study, "The Impact of AI-Generated Text on the Internet", is now available as a preprint, linked below.

@tszzl Keep focusing on programming. More important that they can make themselves better than do our taxes. Once the can improve themselves then they can do our taxes.

@johnwalters_sd @alexeheath You should try it sometime. This is the America that voted for Trump twice after all. If China has an opinion that's the reverse of the US, then maybe we should respect their opinions more than the insane thing that the US is in 2026.

@MaxEllison2048 @alexeheath I've never tried that argument. "most Americans have a different opinion on this subject than me. Well, most Americans also believe in Angels and Demons. So..." _Very_ compelling.

@xriskology It's not obvious at all. Throughout all of capitalism history the creations have been shared with everyone. We all have TVs, refrigerators, cars, AC, phones, laptops, the internet. Many at the same quality as the wealthy. We have inequality but we have a shared tech base.

I think you have to be a complete fool to think that the power-hungry sociopaths who’d control AGI would ever allow the riches to be spread to the people. Obviously, they will hoard it all for themselves. We will become economically obsolete, and they will dispose of us. Duh.
Lennart Heim@ohlennart

it's funny that we might be closer than ever to all the left's marxist dreams: post-scarcity, end of wage labor, etc. but many of them still won't take AGI seriously. the thing that could actually deliver it. instead it's denial and cope.

I'm not mansplaining away anyone's personal hatred of AI. I haven't denied that once in this thread. I'm explaining this poll to everyone regardless of gender. This is a poll about pessimism. Pessimism doesn't equal hate. Many people hate it. But I would bet the number of people who say they "hate" AI are much different than those who worry about AI. I understand the hate and fear. Though I wish we could have better conversations around it. When the AI-haters side just immediately jumps to insults and vitriol the conversation is dead. We need meaningful reforms. Not violence and hatred. Vote the Republicans out and we can get some regulation and stop vigilantism.

@alexeheath No. It shows that many people don't believe AI will lead to better outcomes in a variety of categories. That doesn't mean they hate it. It means they are pessimistic that it will make the world a better place. Most Americans also believe in Angels and Demons. So...

@falseroxy @alexeheath It is interesting that you all seem to not know the difference between your personal opinions, anecdotal reports from your personal bubbles and the meaning of polls.

@ZoeJardiniere @alexeheath You hate it. Many people hate it. This poll does not show anything about hate. It is about optimism and pessimism. You're welcome to make a new poll that measures hate.

@lilyroro @alexeheath It does not do that... So maybe find some real reasons to hate it. There are legit reasons. Either way, the poll doesn't prove anything about anyone hating AI.

@Noahpinion Automating work does not make humans obsolete. Were we put on this planet to create spreadsheets and flip burgers? Automation can be our path to human flourishing beyond anything we've ever seen. Let's not forget that 200 years ago and earlier much of the world was slaves.

@apralky You have a very different idea of what UBI would be from most anyone. It's not to give you food and a pod. UBI increases agency. You are no longer at the mercy of whoever your wage slave owner is. You have freedom to work less and pursue life goals. Most people don't even vote

“UBI” is obviously nowhere near the panacea many of you seem to think it is. The median left-leaning Westerner isn’t angry at Elon Musk because he can buy a million times more groceries than them. They aren’t upset with Palantir because Peter Thiel can afford to eat a thousand burgers to their one. This whole thing is in large part post-material. It’s the hierarchy & subordination they’re uncomfortable with. They feel their dignity is being trampled and their autonomy progressively diminished – rightly or wrongly they feel politically disenfranchised and stripped of a say over the future. Offering a guaranteed food budget and a pod to spend the night in return for further disempowerment is incredibly tone-deaf and should be expected to provoke more, not less, outrage.
keysmashbandit@keysmashbandit

Actually this is correct and I'd go further. Beyond PR, the moral move is for big labs to start heavily investing in UBI lobbyists, thinktanks, whatever, to mitigate the risk of economic upheaval. A better world is possible!

this AI agent watches X 24/7, catches trends the second they cross 10K impressions, generates a full AI commercial in under 3 hours, and posts it before any agency on earth opens Slack... here's how we turned $16K in API credits into $100K+ in deal flow: cloud agent monitors 50 accounts 24/7, flags the second a topic crosses 2+ unrelated audiences fires 100 parallel generations at $3-4.50 per shot. (shout out to @fal ) tests cinematic, VHS retro, documentary, anime, Fincher-dark on the same concept. lets the data pick the winner. weekly board meeting: all agents argue about what worked, what didn't, and the single highest-leverage move for next week. not three priorities one. KitKat pulled a heist at an F1 race. agent flagged it. we published a full AI commercial within hours. 1.5M views. six figures in inbound deals. traditional agencies were still scheduling calls. the moat isn't the model. it's the system around the model.

i built an agent that scrapes viral tweets and generates hundreds of ultra-realistic videos for each tweet... it spent $16k in the past 30 days, but generated over $100k for my business. Reply “ARQ” + RT and i'll send you...
