#NHL to Atlanta update Jamestown and New York Life submitted a zoning application to the City of Alpharetta “for redeveloping the nearly 100-acre site into a walkable, sports-anchored entertainment district positioned to bring an NHL team to the greater Atlanta metro.” This is a second group and site trying to bring NHL hockey back to the metro. This is for the North Point Mall area..

In this situation, there’s just not enough interest for two different groups on the same project - one for the arena and team. It’ll have to be all or nothing. I get what you’re saying but just the reality here in Georgia. Krause owns the land so maybe if he allows another entity to fund/own the rink he could pull it off. Truly, he just wants to be the only owner of the team, the man loves hockey. The other group, still don’t see it happening at all in any circumstance, but we’ll see

@NotThrashers @Ria_Martin @680TheFan While it helps, it’s not a necessity to own the arena if you have a good deal. The Samueli’s are the league’s wealthiest owners, are funding a multibillion investment in the Honda Center and surrounding area but do not own the arena.

#NHL to Atlanta effort RECAP... There are TWO competing proposals to bring a team back to metro Atlanta. 1. Vernon Krause's group "Krause Sports and Entertainment" which has plans for an NHL arena in Forsyth County, part of "The Gathering at South Forsyth" development. 2. Anson Carter's group "Alpharetta Sports & Entertainment" which has plans for an NHL arena at the North Point Mall site in Alpharetta.

@ScottXfan @Ria_Martin @680TheFan This is the only thing that matters. If the price didn’t go up so sharply and quickly, Krause would have a team. It’s also not 2 to 3, it’s 4 to 5 after the arena and other costs. Crazy money

@Ria_Martin @680TheFan The key issue is which group has the resources for the 2 to 3 billion expansion fee. A 12.5% stake in the Hurricanes just sold, valuing the club at 2.66 billion. Unless someone steps forward with that type of money, there will not be expansion

NHL Board meets today. With ongoing speculation around Atlanta, expect a general report on who has approached the NHL and from where. Atlanta isn’t the only one. Nothing more than an update at this point.
