The scientific return on Artemis II is nil. The research program consists of having the crew take pictures out the window (really) when near the moon. Everything else is testing out features of the life support system in the spacecraft. I wish NASA wouldn't lie about this.

@AriCohn You are attempting to reach a space in which law doesn't apply to the harm that resulted from - in their own words - "expressions of ... choice". One of the simplest tests of illegality is "are you knowingly causing harm?" And you're completely refusing to engage with that.

we DO get backstory though. He has a doctorate in molecular biology, wrote a paper calling everyone in his field idiots for believing that water was necessary for life and got shunned, and became a middle school science teacher because he's a coward.

one of my favorite elements of Project Hail Mary is that Ryland Grace is basically just a guy we really don’t get a backstory, a failed relationship mentioned no flashbacks, just sort of a drop-in-and-start-playing audience surrogate gives it a “classic blockbuster” kinda vibe
