Harmful information is undermining life-saving humanitarian action at a time when disasters are affecting more people, more often, according to the World Disasters Report 2026, released today by the @IFRC. The report warns that harmful information and dehumanising narratives are increasingly undermining trust, putting the lives of humanitarian workers and communities at risk. Prior to Tropical Cyclone #Gezani’s landfall in Mozambique, @Red_Cross_Moz volunteers in Inhambane province — in coordination with @INGD_Mozambique — disseminated early warning messages door-to-door, supported evacuations from high-risk zones, and reinforced homes and schools in vulnerable communities. Following the widespread destruction left by #Gezani in Madagascar, these anticipatory actions aim to help prevent further loss and damage. #Preparedness

The @IFRC has launched an emergency appeal to support the Malagasy Red Cross Society @MadaRedCross in providing life-saving assistance after back-to-back cyclones tore through Madagascar in just ten days. The storms killed dozens of people and affected more than 450,000. Homes, schools, health facilities and livelihoods have been destroyed, and rising floodwaters are increasing the risk of disease outbreaks, leaving thousands of families without shelter or basic services.
