Thank you to the young women from @DYRSDC New Beginnings - they worked together, along with their staff, to produce a 30 minute program of dance, poetry, and song. It was an amazing demonstration of community, collaboration, and resilience.

Severe storms are expected to affect the District today (3/16) and could bring damaging winds and possible tornadoes. Take time now to identify where you would shelter if a Tornado Warning is issued. The safest place is the lowest level of a building, in an interior room away from windows. Avoid large open rooms like cafeterias or auditoriums. If storms move through while you are commuting, be prepared to go inside a nearby building rather than staying in your vehicle. Stay weather aware this afternoon and evening and monitor alerts from AlertDC and the National Weather Service. Make sure emergency alerts are enabled on your cell phone. MPD is closely monitoring the incident at a synagogue in Michigan. We are actively coordinating with our law enforcement partners in the District of Columbia. Out of an abundance of caution, MPD is increasing our presence at Jewish Institutions and other places of worship.

One way we’re strengthening public safety in the District is by investing in the next generation of MPD officers. The @DCPoliceDept Cadet Corps prepares young people for careers in law enforcement through hands-on training and mentorship in our city. fox5dc.com/news/dc-police…
